Hi guys I just purchased a 1989 Porsche 944 Turbo S in hopes of making it a track car. Here is a little background on my cars and decesion. I have a 2001 325XI BMW that i have spent about 16k on. The car wasnt doing what i needed it to do on the track so I had it for sale, and was planning on buying a BMW M coupe. I saw this 944 at a PCA event and fell in love. It has 63k miles. It is white and came with many mods. It came with Authority Chip, Boost Controller, Ported and Polished heads, Fabspeed exhaust with a cat by-pass system, harness bar and harnesses. I was wondering what the hp and or acceleration times this car is running now. Also I was wondering after a K27 Turbo Upgrade and Mass Airflow kit how my car will be running (hp and acceleration figures). I will also be doing a full bilstein coil over kit with sways etc. I was wondering what you guys thought of this set up and if you had any more ideas for the car. thanks again.

First, welcome.
Second.. how serious of a track car do you want? Stripped interior, roll cage, race cell, etc.... or the daily driver that is fun at the track. If it is the first, don't gut a good low mile turbo s for it.
As it sits, you are probably putting 260-290hp to the ground. (assuming you are running about 14psi of boost with the chipset) The MAF and K27 will get you about 320rwhp on the stock fuel system, 330+ with bigger injectors and 18psi boost. 0-60 in the high 4 second range IF you can get it to hook up.
The coilovers are a good choice for a street/track car. OEM Porsche M030 sways will also compliment the suspension. Race wheels and good rubber should round them out. Stock brakes are good, Big Reds are better. If you have the money and the time, do it once and do it right.
That should be enough for now. Again, welcome, and read up. You will learn a lot here.

944TurboS..welcome to the club. Sounds like you've got off to a good start there. I can't say any exact figures, but my 89 Turbo has many of the same mods and I'm at 340HP, with 290 of that at the wheels. Last I checked the 0-60 it was 5.3 but that was about 50HP ago. Maybe you are nearing 5.0 0-60 but that's a guess. These cars aren't 0-60 machines, it is awfully hard on the clutch to launch and stay in the boost. Your turbo upgrade will help top end, the stock turbo has a hard time holding peak boost past 5kRPM, at least that is what my dyno charts showed. They are awesome track machines, especially if you go to the coil overs and sways. Depending on what you've got for a harness bar, you may want to upgrade to a roll bar. Redline makes a great one that requires no drilling or cutting.
On the nit-picky side, your car is NOT a Turbo S. I hate to tell you this after you got a handle all set up, but only the 88s were Turbo S's, the 89s were just 944 Turbos even though they had all of the S goodies. Trust me, I've got one too. Don't let anyone tell you it is a 952 either.
You've stumbled on to the greatest wealth of 944 info on the web. Welcome aboard!

Again.. welcome
Everyone pretty much touched on what you can expect. The question is why are you considering a K27/6... a good turbo, but just good. Why not a Garrett ball bearing turbo?
There's more HP to be had if you intend to track the car on a regular basis.
Further, re: the 1988 turbo S vs. 1989 car. They are EXACTLY

Further, re: the 1988 turbo S vs. 1989 car. They are EXACTLY THE SAME CAR. The only difference is one is called the "turbo S" and one is called the 1989.
A lot of people give so much credit to the fact that their car is a .. uh hem... "S" car... But the good news is that you have the same car (for what it's worth)
Suspension:
I'd ask around about suspension setups.. I've got the Huntley Racing Carrera full coilover suspension all round (no torsion bars) with the Weltmeister swaybars front & rear. It's awesome! The sheer grip is incredible!
I'm running 250lbs front and 350lbs rear as my street setup. It's still much stiffer than the turbo S and standard 968 cars, but very much livable on the street.
I had 350lbs front and 450lbs rear, and it was too stiff for everyday driving, especially on Southern California freeways! I felt like a lowered rice burner going down the freeway riding on the bump stops with that setup!!!
Good news though, with the Huntley Racing Carrera Suspension setup, I can change the front and rear springs in less than an hour in my garage!
Check out the Huntley Racing Suspension, the Koni stuff, as well as the Bilstein stuff. They are all good components.
Tom Pultz of 944S2.com is running a pretty nice Koni setup. I've not driven it, but I'm sure it's nice.
Who else out here is running the Bilstein setup?

Advice for a track car. Your car is VERY fast as is. First don't do any power upgrades just make sure its mechanically sound. Start tracking as is first. Get a feel for the car and how it works out on the track. Then once you have good feel for the car in current form then start doing suspension modifications. After that decide if you want track only or track/street. Strip the interior if you want track only. Again learn to drive the car in that form. Then add power. Right now you have plenty of power for the track and can do much to the car and driver to make them faster without any more HP...
You may also want to consider long term plans. Often times a dedicated track car evoles in to a club racer. I bring this up since different organizations have different rules about modifications. Often times people make a bunch of cool mods to track cars then decide to race and find out that their mods push them into a class they can't compete in. You may want to keep and eye on this just in case you want to go PCA club racing for example.
Enjoy and Welcome!!!!

Hey,
I guess I must be getting old, but, IMHO, before
you improve the performance of the car, you should
get some safety equipment, like a roll bar, and
race seats. Then, drive the car for awhile and
see what needs to be improved. When you have some
definite goals, ask around, you won't find a better
place to learn than on Rennlist.

I agree that safety should come before performance mods! Here's my "Rules of improvement:"
1. First mod: nothing. Make sure EVERYTHING in the car is in PERFECT working order.
2. Second mod: safety equipment. Fire extinguisher, harness bar and harnesses, roll cage (if needed)
3. Third mod: THE DRIVER! Improve the driver, not the car, and you're investment will be much better!
4. Fourth mod: keep improving the driver!
5. Fifth mod: tighten up the suspension.
6. Sixth mod: get better brakes.
7. Seventh mod: Keep improving the driver!
8. Eighth mod: MAYBE add start performance mods now.
Did I mention the improtance of improving the driver?!?
BTW: I just LOVE to see great drivers in "slow" cars (like Al P and his 924S) run circles around high HP cars on the track! You may be able to build a wonderfully quick track car, but if you can't drive for squat, it ain't gonna get you in the winner's circle too fast!
Just my $0.42,
-Zoltan.
