Question Oil pressure relief valve retrofit

I am installing the updated Oil pressure relief valve in my 83 944 (N/A of course). I am having a tough time removing the aluminum guide sleeve for the old spring and piston valve. The workshop manual simply says unscrew the sleeve with a pair of locking pliers. Supposedly the sleeve is only held in by loctite. I have only gotten it to move about 45 degrees or so. It is getting pretty chewed up and I don't want to tear off the outer portion and have it still stuck in the block. Any ideas welcome. Here is an over simplified illustration I whipped up. Keep in mind that the exhaust manifold is looming overhead giving clearance problems.

Here's a little help.

Sorry, I can't give you any information on your problem. I'm getting ready to replace mine in the near future. Good luck.

If anyone is interested, I was able to remove the sleeve on Saturday. I clamped a pair of vise grips in on one side of the sleeve wall. Then I put a small piece of metal between the vise grip and the block. I ended up using a 24" pry bar which had enough leverage to pop the sleeve out. Anyway, I got it all back together and started the engine up and within 10 seconds I heard a "pop"! Evidently I didn't get the radiator for the oil cooler seated in the block good enough. When the oil pressure got built up, It forced the oil cooler radiator out into the housing and caused the main housing seal to fail. End result oil and water spewing out. I suppose I will do the job again next week...
