Transmission Mount???
I was driving my car today and when I let off of the gas the shifter moves and when I press on the gas it moves again like there is play in the transmission mount. Is this a symptom is this normal?
Comments anyone.

Check all of the mounts engine and trans. Think there are four main mounts. Two for the engine and two on the transmisson. The ones for the transmission are fairly close together being just above the side covers.
Could just be loose bolts.

Shifter movement relative to load is normal - to an extent. Rattling of the shift lever or excessive play is not normal.
The shifter is attached to the central tube, which is suspended from the chassis by the 2 engine mounts and 1 transaxle mount. (early na cars use 2 transaxle mounts)

You can also have a worn shift lever.
The attchment between the shift lever and the shift tube tends to wear out. In my turbo the shift lever would floop around during hard cornering. You can easily check this by popping the boot off and taking alook at it. There should be no relative movement between the shift lever adn the shift rod. If there is you need to replace the shift lever. This not a big job and can be done in 30 mintues.
