Post chip protection

a prospective buyer of my old bimmer the other day(and former 944 owner) mentioned to me how the flared part infront of the rear wheels is prone to chipping, i've noticed some spots here, and it reminded me that I've seen black panels cut just for this area (magnetic?) I've also seen the clear ones, but i like the look the black ones give(looks early 911 turbo-ish) would anyone know where i could get these and what your experiences may have been w/ them? How to they attach/look in your opinion, etc. Thanks!

I may be confused, but 944s have clear Stongard material in the location that I think you are refering to.

i know what ur talking about, but it's kind of a black thing that curvs up a bit w/ the flare above this coating where the regular paint is.

I am thinking of useing the black protectors you are talking about. If you look in a Tweeks catalog you will see they have the Black ones that stick on,in either a SC style or a Turbo style,I believe the turbo style is larger to fit the larger flares. But you will also see that they have a magnetic backed style for the Boxster that seems like the size is better suited for the 944.Hope this helps. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

thanks, i took a look at the tweek's protectors...ya, they are only in clear for the 944...i don't know if the ones designed for the other cars would fit/look good...i figure they would say they were for the 944 if they did....if u do get them, take a pic and let me know if they fit....if anyone knows of these for the '44 in black, let me know, too, thanks

Just did the front end of my 951 (dark green) with "stonegard",the whole front end, wow, what a difference, fabulous. If you have any chips with the clear, they will be there after, but protected. Needs a smooth surface, but if you fill with color and clear, sand smooth(1500-2000 grit wet ) then you'll be golden. Some of the rounded surfaces could use some trimming before install, but this stuff is bullit proof. As far as the black, matte finish I couldn't find it anywhere, but the same people who make it for the 911's must make it in stock form,Yes?,No? By the way,if it's black mat finish does that mean it'l show all the road crapola in the little nooks and crannies. Best Jim H

No way to get back to you other than the board,Tom,but the best way is to make sure you have 1.a clean surface,2.all contaminents out,a factory color match(two coats,3.as many dabs or fills of factory clear to make the surface even or higher than the surrounding paint, when dry, and the right grade abrasive. AS an indication, your wife?, would probably get tired doing her nails with 1500 grit, and fall asleep with 2000 grit, but following this with 3-m swirl remover, then 3-m imperial glaze will make her look like new,the car I mean.
