cam pulley replacement
i have a dinged up cam pulley from a bolt that almost took out my timing belt, motor and wallet in one go. the pulley teeth are kind of dinged up and making a slight mark on the timing belt i replaced and have off right now to do my front balace shaft seals
with the belt off and the current, slightly damaged cam pulley exposed, what is involved in swapping in a clean cam pulley?
thanks much

You will have to remove the distributor rotor, the small piece that attaches the rotor to the cam (small allen head bolt), and then remove the triple square bolt holding the cam gear to the cam. There is a hex collar you can see, that the cam bolt rides inside of. Use a large adjustable wrench on that to hold the cam while removing the bolt. Be very careful, as the cam bolt can be a pain and can strip easily. After that it pops right off.

thanks guys
the risk of stripping is a worry. i got to the german junkyard today and watched this scrub reef and snap the cam shaft to get the pulley off.
some damage to the pulley, less than on my current pulley, but i will probably have to file down the little small sharp ding on two teeth.
nothing like the broad dings on my current pulley.
any tips on filing it down...
hope i can get the pulley off with no stripping

Just be careful, ensure the bit is fully seated in the bolt, make sure the ratchet is straight and not cocked funny, and make sure you have a good hold of the cam. I took mine off without issue. I also wouldn't settle for a damaged cam gear. I'm known to be a little **** tho...what scares me is how the hell do you snap a camshaft?
