Post Viruses- has anyone here....

I've been getting these e-mails lately from several different places. Tonight, I had one from info@powerhaus and one from info@partsheaven. I've had several others, but the subjects are usually one word, like "target" or tonight the Powerhaus one said "WinXP patch" and the other (tonight) was a single word, but it wasn't really a word (not English anyway). I've also been getting a lot of e-mails from places I've never heard of, that when opened say something like "I thought you would like this" w/no other text- that's what the Powerhaus one said tonight, and it actually finished the phrase w/"WinXPpatch." The other one was blank- no text. I've gotten others, but haven't payed as much attention- they are usually fairly large (125K - 175K) so they must have some type of attachment, but I can't find anything to open. Oh yeah- a lot of these are replies, but I haven't e-mailed ANY of these places in at least 6 months- some of them I've never even heard of! When I try to reply directly to them, they are sent back as postmaster errors or something...

Has anyone else been getting any e-mails like these? I only ask b/c I read a reply/post a few minutes ago that made a reference to a partsheaven e-mail that sounded kind of strange and have been hearing about so many viruses lately....

Thanks,
Robby

I've been getting a few odd mails too.. Today I got one from turbo@turbochargers.com, and it didn't say anything..the title was "please try again".. Yet I've never visited their site. I too suspect viruses or worms at work, but it never has tripped my always up-to-date Norton. I don't like it one bit..

I get odd emails even from an old Quest account that was closed in December. Many of them porno type deals or how to become a billionaire in two easy steps.

Well it seems my latest problem was actually Bill Gates trying to take over the world by forcing me to Hotmail email rather than the POP3 server. I've got to dump MSN as an ISP. There is a new problem everytime you turn around.

I told you to quit looking at those sites Iceskark- especially the ones w/the barn yard animals on them

I've got an AOL account right now, my e-mail address w/them is one I've only used for BS stuff when I think something might be a gimmick or something and end up putting me on everyone's e-mail lists- I've gotten a few of the "Hey Rob, it's been awhile" e-mails, that when I open them are "Click here to see 3 women and a sheep" or "$4.95/month to see chix w/dix" or similar crap. I don't know how the hell they've latched on to that address- I've never given my credit card # or opened any kind of account to ANY of those places. The e-mails on my regular account from Porsche places are really strange though- those are the one's that really bug me...

iT's the W32.Klez virus to my knowledge, I'm infected myself so you might be receiving mails from my address. Whoever it infects it sends an attachment + message to everyone on their mailing list... Norton I think has an update, I on the other hand have no anti-virus software and will probably just reformat.

I got the info@partsheaven and admin@rennlist. the partsheaven was a virus that norton picked up.

May I suggest we all agree to head any email to a member of the 944 community with a long header explaining the text, and if there is an attachment state the name etc in the body of the email.

Alright, that makes sense... I've been using Yahoo for my e-mail and it uses Norton (I believe) to screen attachments. It hasn't shown anything on any of mine yet, but like I had said before- I haven't been able to open them anyway- now I wont even try...

I guess we'll have to be careful when sending legitimate Porsche messages to each other for awhile, like Tom said...

Thanks guys...

Hi folks....

There are a couple of viruses out there that are really vicious. One that is spreading fairly quickly actually "hides" both the MailFrom - so, it will send e-mail "impersonating" someone in your address book and send it TO someone in your address book. For example - I got an email *FROM ME* (johnd@rennlist.com) addressed TO me (admin@rennlist.com) - which was sent by an AOL user two days ago... I also got Flamed last evening by someone who *insisted* I mailed them a VIRUS. I asked them to look closely at the mail headers and tell me exactly *where* it was sent by any of my mail servers... Hmmmm......

Anyway - do NOT open anything with an attachment (.exe, .jar, .vbs, etc...), even if you think you know the person sending it. If you think it is really someone sending you something - just pop them an e-mail and ask if they did, in fact - send you something! And update your virus checker.!!!

Does anyone else have MSN as an ISP?

Some of you know how many problems I have been having with e-mail, suspected virus, etc. Well, yesterday I call MSN to find out if there is some way to speed up my system on the MSN/Hotmail E-mail setup, short of a new computer, as I can drink a whole cup of coffee during the time it takes to fire up the computer, log on and see if any messages.

The guy tells me sure, they will just re-program me back to a POP3 mail server, all from their end, I don't have to do 'nothin. Unbelievably, he was true to his promise and I am back to normal!

So, anyone what's going on here?

Yeah...and I'm getting ready to cancel after 4 years. Their SPA and secure BS are not industry standard and the POP mail is nothing more than a SPAM bucket. I get at least 20 or so SPAM messages in my POP account daily. Most of it originates directly from MSN ad customers. Check out the MSN discussion group on USENET if you want the whole scoop. They're trying to force everyone to use their web based Hotmail and their tactics are pure MS blackboot. JMHO.

That is what I sort of figured out on my own, but didn't think about usenet, which I will check out tonight. If Softy is involved, they are trying to screw everyone else.

I haven't been getting much spam .... well that is probably due to the fact that my e-mail rarely works.

I'm probably going to quit myself. I have a great low $15 unlimited usage rate and haven't had to pay a cent since Qwest forced me over to those jokers in December. But this has been too much of a headache.

I love this:

With MSN, failure is not an option.
It comes bundled with the service.

Yeah...Do check USENET. There were several posts on the Quest/MSN debacle. The bottom line was, they could NOT make you go with MSN if you knew the right people to talk to. Out of ALL major ISPs that offer broadband coverage, MSN *ALWAYS* finishes in last place. Good luck.

IceShark: The last euro-light e-mail I sent to you (Fri/Sat) was kicked back with a no such address message. Strange since it was a reply. --Roy--

Roy, I was pissing and moaning to MSN that my computer was slower than a drugged turtle now that I was on HotMail. So they did something and switched me back to a POP3 server .... I think they did it somewhere around Friday night. Maybe that is why the e-mail bounced?

I don't know .... try again and see what happens ... my e-mail is a day to day adventure.
