Post Fuel consumption guage and idle

Hey fellas,

I have a 1984 944 NA. According to my fuel consumption guage, I can't get better than about 20 mpg when cruising in 5th gear. At idle (1000 rpm), the needle hovers around 1-.75 gallons per hour.

Are you guys getting the same reading? I think mine used to show .5 gallons per hour at an idle just below 1000 rpm and get closer to 25 miles per gallon while cruising. Is there anything I can our should do to get better gas mileage?

Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks

It's more accurate than the later models.

Porsche replaced it with a "shift now idiot" light.

The miles per gallon is for fifth gear. Use the gallons per hour for all other gears.
