Still Wanna Hate Keith Martin? AutoWeek Rant Pt II
Just got my 2002/2003 Sports Car Market Pocket Price Guide with my SCM Magazine.
Keith Martin, who many of you felt the need to bash a few weeks ago publishes SCM, and copies of his auction reports appear in AutoWeek.
Here are a few snippets on Porsches that might change some opinions.
The range of values in "nice but not perfect condition. In a 1 to 6 condition range, these would be a very strong #3 (complete, runs well, no glaring flaws) or a weak # 2 (better than a daily driver, nice crisp feel, yet nowhere near a true show car)."
"For instance, the Porsche 928 is a car with no appreciation potential, and with no meaningful future as a collectible.... Yet the 928 is also universally regarded as one of the great grand touring cars of all time, with prodigious performance. For a number of reasons, though, it willnever get into the collectible hall of fame."
Here is how some 944s rated.
89-91 S2 coupe $11,500 - $14,000
conv $14,500 - $20,000
Just above the 13.8 I am asking.
83-85 $4,000 - $6,500
86-87 $5,500 - $7,000
88-89 $6,000 - $8,000
Turbo add 2k, turbo S add $2,500
My 68 Firebird Convert comes in at
$10,000 - $15,000
Just a little under the $17k I am asking.
Flame away!

Nuther words, an '83-85 in a condition rated 1 on a 1 to 6 scale should fetch @ $4000. Well mine would easily rate a 1 if not a 2 "# 2 (better than a daily driver, nice crisp feel, yet nowhere near a true show car)." So the $2500 I gave for it looks better and better, especially considering that a friend of my daughter has told her that he'd give me $5000 for it. I feel good!!
