Testing speed sensor
I've searched around and couldn't find a clear answer for this...if you supply power and ground to the speed sensor ('87 944S part #94460621000) should the center pin put out voltage when spinning the internal drive? I tried this and mine's not putting out anything.
I've had the intermittent speedo problem for a long time but now it's not working about 90% of the time. When it does decide to work, it will register when you first start moving and will work great until the car is cut off..I've checked the fuse and ground, getting good power and ground on the 3 pin connector, and I'm really hoping it's nothing in the instrument cluster..(all the other gauges work.)
Not having a lot of luck with the speedo but I did manage to fix the windshield washer the other night. The dealer replaced the tank when it was about 6 months old and it worked for about another 6 months before it dumped all the washer fluid out..I didn't want to go back to Atlanta just for that, so it's been busted for 22 years!! Took it out, patched the split, blew out the lines, checked the motor...hit the switch and no water!!! I had to take the motor apart to clean and grease the gears...works great now!!
