sm:

Mine did not come with a convex mirror, so I added one - on the passenger side - about five years ago. It fit's perfectly, know one knows it's not from the factory.

I got it from Automotion, now Performance Products. They still carry it, about $40.00.

Hppe this helps.

Oh man.. in my opinion, the only place for the power window switches is in the door. True, in most cars I've driven, they're located in the armrest in the door, which is IMHO optimal, but in the 944 there just wouldn't be enough space for that.

The absolutely worst placement I've ever witnessed was in a '02 Jeep Cherokee - in the center console..! Aieegh <img src="graemlins/c.gif" border="0" alt="[ouch]" /> (didn't make any sense to me, but of course, it might float somebody else's boat, so no offense meant )

Geuss where they are on series II and III Jaguars.

My Bronco has them on the door. But they are so far down you actually have to lean forward and down to reach them.

Had to search a long time to find the window switches in my friend's Alfa Milano...they're up by the inside rearview mirror!

The window switches in the wife’s BMW are on the center console.

BTW, I love the functionality of the German cars that the wife and I own. She did have an ‘89 Honda Prelude, I had an ‘85 Toyota Celica and I now have a ’97 Honda Civic. All three Japanese cars had/have plenty of gas left in the tank when reading empty. In our BMW and the Porsche, when the needle hits the “E”, you are out of gas.

When a Mercedes, Audi or VW reads “E” can you still drive 30-40 miles? I thought that “E” meant empty.

Isn't it self-explanatory?

Does anyone realize how much simpler the wiring is for power windows when the switches are on the center console? The switches have to have "feed through" capacity in order to permit the driver to operate the passenger window and also let the passenger door switch operate. If the switches are located in the console, the number of switches (for a 2 door car) are reduced from 3 to 2, reachable by both passenger and driver, and only two wires are required in each door; those that operate the motors. Wiring wise, the switch becomes a standard center off double pole switch which is available commercially and will take a hekuvalot more current before losing its temper (springiness) and developing a load of oxidation that reduces current carrying capacity.

I never could understand the fascination with door mounted switechs and the ergonomics (location and the gyrations you have to go through to use them) of the Porsche switches. On VWs, the switches ARE on the armrest and are physically smaller than the ones in the '44 and have the added feature of being illuminated.

I moved mine to the center console, using the VW parts and covered the holes in the door with small speaker grilles. No more window switch problems.

As for the single indicator light, there is a case where simplicity wins out. Personally, I think it is chintzy in an upscale car, but it does make sense.

On my old VW Cabrio the power window switches were in the center console. I actually preferred this as the doors on the VW and the Porsche are a little too close to the seat so it's much easier to reach.

Since they are on the door on my 944 though, I wish they would light up at night...
