Default stuck in 1st and weird stuff

ok so i parked my car and put it in 1st. come out later on and go to start it but it is stuck in 1st. so i put the clutch in, start it up, and took the e brake off...and it didnt roll back at all (im on a little hill). and when i let off the brake it starts to move forward (even tho my clutch is in). and when i go to pull forward it almost dies and idles really weird when i start to release the clutch, then i tried revving it and it sounded bad and smelled terrible almost like something was burning up. so i turned it off and as soon as i did it came out of gear like normal. could it be my clutch? tranny? need some help please, thanks in advance.

Sounds like clutch issue. Being that it smells.

You don't say what vehicle you own. I can't tell from your photo but it looks like a 951. If it is they didn't have rubber centered clutches. They did have an OE spring centered clutch that can grenade and the springs get wedged between the FW, PP and disc. Sounds like a clutch or failed release bearing though from the noise you describe. Does it feel like it shifts normally with the engine off?

The symptoms you describe are exactly what occurred to me. When the car is off, the gears shift smoothly however, when you crank it up, it only remains in one gear and creeps forward.

I replaced my hydraulics (slave, master and line) without success. When I removed the clutch, the springs were damaged and broken.
