Default Should I...

... Replace the battery ? As the current one is VERY VERY old! It still holds a charge (I think! Haven't used the car for about 9 days so for all I know it could be completely flat!) but according to the sticker and receipt history is was replaced in 2004. It is a cheap unbranded £50 battery from the local parts store. I'm very suprised it still works after 6 years as I bought an Energizer for my old Peugeot 405 I had (sold about 6 months ago due to excessive repair bills) and after only 2.5 years it was completely dead! So 6 years for an unbranded cheap battery is great. However would I be better in the long run to just replace the battery now ? I could use it right till it dies but I don't fancy being stuck somewhere with a flat battery!

If I should get another battery what one out of these should I get:

Halfords Lead Acid Battery HB096 -

Startup power: 640 Amps
AH value: 70
Reserve capacity: 130
Bench charge: 7.0 Amps
£94.99

Halfords Calcium Battery HCB096 -

Startup Power: 680 Amps
AH Value: 74
Reserve capacity: 135
Bench Charge: 7.4 Amps
Weight (kg): 17.73
£104.99

Bosch 12V Silver Car Battery HSB096 -

Startup Power: 780 Amps
AH Value: 77 AH
Bench Charge: 6 Amps
Weight: 18.65kg
£124.99

The Halfords ones are the store-branded ones (name of the store is Halfords).

So, what should I do ?

If it were me I would buy the Bosch.

The battery in my car was 13 years old. I finally replaced it 2 weeks ago. It went totally flat and wouldn't take a charge.

Usually you can expect a car battery to last 3-6yrs after that it's usually a risk.. but in my opinion if it's still keeping charge I wouldn't worry about it, but if buying a new one won't hurt the bank hardly then why not, unless the wife kills u... if you get one go Bosch, higher cranking amps, either that or go optima lol

That's my preference but up to you man

Well I started her up this morning after 10 days sitting, cranked nice and fast-ish! Took about 6-7 seconds to finally fire though, but after over a week sitting I'll forgive her!

The 928 has a Bosche battery from 1999 and still works so I guess I'll go for the Bosche!!

Though it is starting to die, as if you leave the car for over 2 days it cranks over REEEAAALLLLL slowly! Over 3 days and it's completely dead! No clock, nothing!

If you have the battery in front like all the normal 944's do be careful on size when you get the new one. I don't think the 77AH Bosch will fit , i have a 70AH Bosch silver and it's tight ,i don't see anything bigger than that fitting in there.
