Default Cargo cover repair

My cargo cover in my '84 944 still has spring retraction but it is very week and is not effective for the last 6-10 of rolling the sheet back in. Clark's garage has a repair thread on this but that seems to only address when the spring is completely broken. Has anyone remedied something like this?

My '84 also had weak spring. I drilled the rivits out, turned drum to give more resistance, and re-rivited.

SOME covers used screws not rivets, but yes, as ling as the spring isn't broken, you can re-tension it and drive on!
