Default Part # for 924S Cooling Fan Relay

My slow fan won't turn off w/o disconnecting the battery. I have a spare fan relay for my S2, but have come to realize that the 924S has a different sized relay altogether. I wasn't able to get the relay out of my 924S today for a part number (wouldn't budge!), and couldn't find anything in the searches.

So in the mean time, does anyone know the part number for a cooling fan relay for a 924S? (mines an '87)

I'll try to post up the number. In the meantime, you may want to search the Pelican Parts site. Do your high speed fans blow all the time? You may simply have a faulty coolant fan switch on the radiator.

My high speed fan doesn't blow all the time, only when the temperature is on the high side. It's the low speed fan that seems to blow all the time.

Have you considered that maybe the thermal switch you are using could be a low temp thermal switch, possibly a 65/60? Either whalebird is correct in his diagnosis or, the fan relay is toast...

What do you mean by a low temp thermal switch?

Mounted in the rad on the driver side is a teperature switch that has 2 connectors (on an early car) or 3 connectors on it if it is a late model 944. I don't know in which category your 924S falls. This switch comes in different temperature values to permit you to decide when the slow speed function of the fans should come on. For example on my Series 1 car (early) I can get 4 different switches that will change the temperature at which the slow speed fan comes on. A low temp switch (823.959.481E) 65/60 starts the slow speed fan at 65 degrees Celcius. IMO that is a little too cool. The next one 75/70 (823.959.481)starts the slow speed fan at 75 degrees Celcius.

Alright.

I walked outside a couple of nights ago to find the low speed fans on. This was after the car had been sitting stationary and not running for three hours. The fan defiantly isn't staying on due to a low temp thermal switch.

Actually, the thermal fan switch can fail in the on or off position. If it fails in the on position, the fans will run til the battery dies.

Okay, thanks for the notes.

Anyone have a part # for the 924S cooling fan relay?

Nothing on Paragon or Pelican. Worst case, I found an aftermarket supplier on Google....
