My A/C is not working
My A/C compressor is not engaging anymore. It used to work before it was parked (it would freeze you out literally). It has sat for almost 3 years. I did start it about every 2 months or so but I read somewhere the other day it should have been started at least once a month with the A/C on (not sure if the A/C was on).
I checked to fuses and they are all good. Anyone have any other ideas before I go and search for a Porsche Mechanic? Is there problem points or week spots in the wiring anywhere? I called Porsche and they quoted me $1241.00 for a new compressor plus the installation cost if they install it <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[crying]" /> .
I have searched previous posts but I found none with the same issue.
Thanks,
John

John,
The AC compressor has a low freon cutoff pressure switch. If there is no freon inside of the compressor it won't allow the compressor to work since there's no fluid to bring oil to the compressor (and thus fry it). It's a safety mechanism.
I had the same problem on mine until I added freon and then it kicked back on.
Assuming that your AC's worked before in the past and you haven't done anything major to the system and the freon just slowly leaked out, it's a very plausible explanation for your symptoms.

Everything should be ok. These systems need to be recharged every two years. Take it to a shop and have them check the system. Freon is expensive these days so budget around US$200.00 for the service if it needs recharging... or take the plunge and switch to R34 while you are at it.
Good luck, let us know how it turns out.

I only added freon to my AC and it seemed to get it going again.
I had purchased a 30lb tank of it a long time ago when you could buy the stuff off the shelf at Pep Boys (which is where I got mine) for about $70 and I thought I was getting ripped off at the time (since you could buy it for $30 a year earlier -> that's right 30lb tank!). I don't feel so bad now that I have this lying around, currently it's about a $1000 for a 30lb tank and you need to have an AC license to buy it. Wow!
