Post New to me 944 (pics)

I finally picked up a 944. I paid next to nothing for it and got what I paid for .
The sheet metal is really straight and the paint is decent, but the interior is hurt. Things like cracked dash pad, broken ignition switch(someone hot wired it at one point) and torn seats. On the drivetrain side its got a blown head gasket(common?), fuel pump is removed from car(why i don't know), but the motor spins w/ the starter.

I want this to be a track car so the cosmetics aren't important. What is important is fixing the fuel system and head gasket.
Does anyone here have a fuel cell in their car? Where did you get it? What pump are you running?
When I pull the head any tricks? Special tools? I'm going to do the timing belt while I'm there, since i have to remove it.

Most importantly previous owner had no keys to the car, it was a repo, can I get keys made to fit my existing locks or do I need to buy an entire kit(very pricey)?

How did you drive it without keys?

Good job on saving it from the scrap heap!

Add it to <a href="http://www.p-caronline.com" target="_blank">P-CarOnline</a>!

Well I haven't driven it yet. Since the ignition switch is broken I want to rig up a covered toggle for the ignition w/ a momentary switch for the starter, since it will never see street duty, I'm comfortable w/ doing that.

I have seen 944 fuel cells going for $2000 in either Pano or excellence. These are supposed to fit in the stock location.

I don't know of a 944 or 951 racer that has one, but I am sure there are a few. What is wrong with the fuel system?

Any Porsche dealer should be able to make or order a key from your VIN, but you have to take in the title to prove ownership.

Where are you in Pasadena? I live in Clear Lake. If you need any help with that thing I'd be glad to lend a hand.

Since you're new, did you notice the admin sticky about the BBQ in Katy on the 17th? It would be nice to have another new person there.

Like they run on A-sedan. The car sat w/o a gas cap for a year and the fuel sender was out of the tank. I am going to try and clean the tank 1st and coat the inside of it before I get too drastic.

I found the switches I need to wire up the ignition at lunch and I'll try to set up an existing fuel system that I have from a drag car to see if I can get it to run(just a quick fire up and kill it). It would really put me at ease to have it running before I dive off too far.

Well I figured out the fuel system! Some idiot put a carb. elec fuel pump on the car. rated 5.5-9 psi! I haven't been able to find out but I guess a 944 would run about 40psi right?
