What about the nipple on the input shaft for the pilot bearing on the Audi? I kinda thought about using the vaccume locker diff from a quattro. That would be cool.

Good one...

I've been swapping emails on Audifans... seems like the '83-84 GT Coupe (this is what they refer to as a CGT, right? Means different things to me) has an interchangeable trans. Now, to see if that rumour of a 4.9:1 rear end in an offered gearbox pans out...

listen vaughan,

its not about the audi transaxle idea... thats fine. its about the fact that hey i'm a streetracer/burnout man doing this with a car thats not meant for it, now i gotta pay the price. if i was a porsche owner in latvia i'd be thinking of the best way to preserve one of the few examples in my country, not beating the crap of it every chance i got. i'm all fo rmaking things work, but not at the cost of a car that could have a much better life doing what it was meant to do, not to be thrashed into non-existence. to each his own, he likes to street race. i hate to see an example of a highly tuned german engineered sportscar be beaten to death to satisfy someones urge to go be an idiot and endanger people. flame on if you wish! deep down you know i'm right, he should sell the car and buy a honduh civic or something thats better suited to the rigorous beating.

lol, yes tom.

in latvia boy's previous posts, he expressed his street racin heritage/fetish/interest/affiliation/whateveryouwannacallit and basically was told this would happen. now we're working on ideas to circumvent the fact that our cars are made for running on tracks, or driving the autobahn, not for racing rice. although this is a great idea, the application in this instance is at least to me apalling, considering what it would mean for the poor car.

so i'll restate my first post.

he should sell the car and spare it the abuse. someone in latvia would love it like it deserves to be i'm sure. dont waste your time and money to street race a 944... go buy a honduh.

No no no guys, you don't understand me, i'm not street racing every day, I have even not taken a part in illegal race. It's just on street, I like to drive bit faster it's nothing about burnouts, I have never done it! And tranny broke not from street racing but from cars age, think there was bad pinion bearing.

I found out that audi 5000 turbo and quattro may me suitable. There is two 944 II one turbo and about 5 first 944 in Latvia, not much.

Audi pinion is smaller than 944 also bearings are only Porsche and is not like audis, they are larger.

i also drive my car hard on the street, never so hard as to break something though! and they changed the pinion metal in 87, so i'm the one who should be worrying about r&p. so if you're saying its from cars age i should have more to worry about than you. it seems that after the investment in the tranny repair, investment in learning how to not break your car is in order, i konw many people with older cars than yours that dont break due to age. its all about how you use it, man. get it working again and treat it right.

Well, if you guys find an alternative to the current 944 trans, I'm interested.

What's that beeping sound? Must be my new over-flame detector.... ;]
