People that pay 100,000 for school don't want to be associated with people at community colleges (I don't speak for myself).

944 people saying they have a Porsche tarnishes the images of those who paid 80k + for their 911's. I bought a 944 so I could differentiate myself, if someone says their rx7 has a lot in common I won't care, because I'm an engineer and try to see things for what they are, others scoff at the notion their 944 is like an rx7.

What I Just said doesn't really apply to anyone on this board, i've seen very few people say the 944 isn't a porsche (oh wait I'm always in the 944 forums!, doh!).

Any way we could hook up windmills and generate power whenever the "But is it a Porsche" question appears?

Cheers,
Chris

And of course YOU would be the one to catch me on that Mike! I meant 911 Turbo...I'd think from 964 on up, then again the only 911 Turbos I have experience with is my dad's 993TT..

Mike - the answer (and final answer) is....YES!

If you want to double check, go look at the hood of your car...does it have a Porsche Badge? If so, then you have a Porsche. If you want to be real sure.....take a drive....nuff' said.

Also, if you want to know if the jeans you're wearing are real Levi 501's, check for red stitching on the inside, just like the the 944 has a PORSCHE engine on the inside.

I think the real question is not, "Is the 944 a real Porsche", but rather, "Who say's it's not??"...and if anyone ever did say to me, "That is not a real Porsche", I'd simple pull the hood button, show them the PORSCHE engine, close the hood and dust off my PORSCHE badge.... again, 'nuff said.

what about the 914 which didnt sport the porsche badge... not a porsche? if you say yes, you're wrong. its one of the most stylish cars i've ever seen, i wanted one for a long time, but i fell in love with my 944. the 914 is truly one of the more pure porsche designs... the 914-6 arguably could be considered one of the finest automobiles around, not a porsche because its missing the front badge? WRONG... look under the hood - if it says porsche its a porsche, look at the design, if it screams porsche, its a porsche, feel the superb handling... does it handle like a porsche? its a porsche.

lol, yeah, i know, i bet if you REALLY REALLY wanted to badge your 914, you could do it... a couple holes and some paint sealer, and you're good to go... or go for the quasi-ricey sticker to marque your car...

ah, to each his own

as for my own - they will be Porsche

Guys, I read the GRM Article. I found it to a fair and honest representation of the 911 vs 944 debate. As a matter of fact I am surprised how well the normally aspirated 944 really did. Locally here I know a number of 911 SC owners. These guys are core of PCA around here and many are track guys. Not racers, but just track guys. The 911 SC is very fast, solid, reliable car. Honestly I know many 911SC that will spank a 944 on a track (stock vs stock). Heck even my 944 spec car has to work pretty good to keep-up with a well prepared and well driven 911 street/track car.

Honestly 911SC vs 944 NA even money?... I pick 911SC. These a really classic 911's and a staple for any guy with a low budget that wants a 911.. You can't go wrong.

That said the 944 NA is bargan. I can't see even a pristine stock show car going for more than $6k. That is one whole lot of car for the money!

The ONLY problem with 944 was the lack of power. The chassis was (and still is) so good that it could take so much more power than what it has. Of course the 944 Turbo is the answer to that.

So.. 944 Turbo vs 911SC even money?.... Hmmm 944 Turbo hands down! Back when I got my 944 Turbo I could have gotten a 911SC for about the same bucks, but I choose the 944 Turbo due to the more modern amenties and extra power and handling. Other may choose the 911SC for the traditional Porsche feel. Either way is fine with me.

Guys,
Don't get so worked-up about the 944 vs 911 SC debate and "944 is not real Porsche" debate. Honestly is not a big deal.

Also remember that 911SC was a near contemporarty of the early 944 and due to marketing the 944 NA was to slot BELOW the 911SC. Therefore the 911SC SHOULD be a better car. Better value is 944!

Before people get the chance to say, nice mazda, or nice nissan,
I say: "It's not a 911, but it sure is a Porsche."

The issue of it's being a real Porsche or not, stems from ignorance.

The ignorance of what Porsche stands for, or the lack of knowing the multitude of cars Porsche has designed.

No, my 951 is not a 911. Thank you.
But it IS a Porsche.
And I'm proud of that.

Yeah, but in Europe, the 914 is a VW-Porsche. hehe...
Just had to fan the flames....
-Z.

PS: IMO, the 914 is closer to the original Porsche than the 911! Remember, 356 No.1 was a mid-engined layout! Now put that in your pipe and smoke it! <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />
