Water pump replacement day 3
Well I finally put my car back together and she lives! The only problem is that the cooling fans will not kick on and the car ran hot. Does anyone have any idea why the fans aren't cutting on? I checked the fuses- good, The relay is plugged in snugly the connectors to the fans are plugged in good, but I have no power to the fans. What gives? Also the accessory belts are squealing really bad but they are nice and tight. This project was going great until today.

I know that air pockets can get into the cooling system but I think I got them all out. I mean there is no real way to "bleed" the cooling system other than let the car run and refill the expasion tank when it needs water correct?

I had this problem a little while ago. What I ended up doing was driving the car around easy not pushing it hard at all and that seemed to help the whole motor heat up more evenly so the thermostat would open. After the thermostat opened I could bleed the coolant system a lot better don't forget to have the heat on high as well as the blower fan. The thing that made me think of this was the temp gauge in the car was showing hot but the oil pressure did not drop like it does when it is up to temperature.

raise the front of the car and open the bleed valve, top front of engine, if you have an owners manual it shows you where it is.
this will help to get any trapped air to the valve.

do the fans turn on when you turn on the A/C. if the fans don't turn on, then most likely the problem is with the powering of the fans (relay, wiring) and not the a temp sensor. how hot does the engine get without the fans, you may not be need to run the fans all the time.

I am not familiar with the bleed valve.
Nathan, I started the car after I got it put back together and let it idle for a while. I hopped in to drive it home and it was running HOT i turned the temp light on briefly. The fans didn't cut on at all. I figured the reason it was running so hot was due to letting it sit at idle so I put her on the road to get air flowing through the radiator and it cooled down a little. I noticed a gurgling sound when I got home a mile or so away. And I figured that I had an air pocket in the cooling system seeing how I flushed the radiator today. I didn't turn on the AC so I couldn't tell you on that one. But the temp gauge was reading 1.5 to 2 bar and before I replaced all the above the car NEVER ran this warm. The gauge is reading so thats why I am thinking something is wrong with the relay.

Bleed the system first! That's probably your problem. Especially if the fans were running fine before the WP job. The bleed screw is at the front of the head and perpendicular to the head.

like everyone else has said, bleed the cooling system. my favorite method is to runs the engine for a few mins allowing the engine to get hot. then with a 12mm wrench loosen the bleeding screw till only fluid comes out. be careful, bcs the fluid will be super-heated. you can also try to pressurize the cooling system, this can be done by a number of methods. one is to basically blow air into the expansion tank, wal-mart also sells adaptor for the expansion tank for this.
far as the fans, I would check this out.

you have to bleed the air out, bcs the air will not work its way out.
