If you want the best, Dynaudio and Focal component sets are probably the best you can buy, Midrange, tweeter and crossover is about $750 for a set, Dynaudio makes a set that includes 2 8" subs for the rear, but that is over $1000 for the set.

I tried the kappa plates like scootin but didn't like the gap he showed. They also seemed to rattle a little because of fit, so I went with Kappa seperates in front, and put the plates in back. Sounds great...

I think I'm gonna order a set of the Audiobahns up front and go with the 6 x 9's (kicker) from my '84 in the back. Does anyone know if the carpet piece from the rear deck is the same dimensions from year to year and NA to turbo?

ringo,

Where you able to mount the separates in the stock location and use the stock grill?

I'm glad this thread got started ... my car still has the stock speakers also (horrid sound). I need to look into head units too. The PO put some bright and flashy (ie: the face plate and display both glow, lots of dancing lights) unit in there ... not exactly my taste.

You know for a plain head unit that goes with the brushed aluminum look in my car i went with this Sony Xplod and i have blaupunkt grpahite TI's (4x6's) front AND back, and i have a JBL power 1000 watt amp to a 15" custom built box wrapped in black vinyl. Sounds INCREDIBLE. no SPL numbers to report, but the bass is so low, not like overly loud or anything you can talk over it, but it just "crunches" your stomach and your eyes vibrate and all.

I just re did my stereo this winter, this is what I found out,Infinity separates in front 4.5 woofer and tweeter up over the window switch ,and infinity 4x6 in the rear. if more bass is needed an 8 inch sub in the rear cubby and you can power it with an Alpine 320 5 ch amp with cross over built in ($179 at circuit city.)This system is very good sounding with decent bass, and not horribly expensive.I ended up taking a pair of clarion plates apart and fabricating a thin plate to fit in the stock location and a pair of Mb quarts in the rear<they did not fit in the doors of my 85.5.I put an 8 inch sub and am using the Alpine 5 ch amp.I am VERY happy with the results.

If I ever get a chance to borrow a digital camera, or if I just break down and buy one myself, I can show everyone the 6 x 9 install that I did. It's very simple and doesn't involve peeling off the side panels in the back seats. Looks like a very clean install and sounds great. No need for subwoofers in boxes, plenty of volume and bass out of this setup.

Anyone hear Rochester or Geneva NY with a camera???

I've got a blaupunkt nevada cd headunit and some 4x6 blaupunkt speakers all the way around. Evyerthing fit right in without any modification. It sounds great to me, and none of it was too expensive. The head unit was under $200 and the speakers were about $40 a pair.

Also the blaupunkt head unit blends in nicely with the cars interior and looks like it was meant to be there, unlike flashy Sony ones that my friends have.

I totally agree there.....that was one of my main reasons for going with Blaupunkt, it doesnt look out of its element.

The speakers are Blaupunkts highest grade...they are kinda hard to find ODx462 OVERDRIVE. i LOVE mine
