ok, well I am still considering this car, but i'm trying to be logical about the whole thing.
Asking price of car $6,000.
The car has about 105K on it, but the the car shows 73k (replaced dash early in its life).
Car needs:
Radiator
Rear Tires
Water pump / belts
and it is the same clutch for at least 50K
So you total all that up and i'm looking at a lot of wrench time and a good $2.5k worth of parts. So that would be 8.5K and i'm sure many frustrations.
So unless I can get him to come down I don't think this is going to be in the cards.....

Ian, I drove that car Friday. I agree it would take considerable time and cash to get it up to par. In the end, I passed it up based on the interior cosmetic issues and unknown milage. Great prospect for a track project car though.. $5000 max if you ask me.

Yeah, $6,000 is steep for that car, just too many little things, and the owner will not take any less than that for it. For 5K I might change my mind, but the thoughts of doing a clutch job would keep me from it.
O-well, i'll find something

$8500 for a tidy S2 isn't bad. Heck you should figure adding $2K to any P car right off the bat to update any maintenence items.
If you want a daily driver you should probably pass. Buy something cheap & boring that you won't want to throw money at and put the $$ into your 951.
