Question 3.0 L pistons for Turbo

Hello !
Do anyone know where to find 104 mm pistons for a turbo application:
- 968 block with 944 turbo S head

I am looking for 8-8.5 to 1 cop. ratio...

I saw beautifull JE pistons on Huntley site.

It is also common to make a dish in stock 968 pistons but what is the volume to create to have the wanted compression ratio.

Or who know the stock volume of 944 turbo head ?

I also heard 2.7 l head are better due to bigger valves ?

Thank's in advance

Nicolas

Nicolas...There is an ongoing thread about building a 3.0 turbo on Two Robs Board ...Seems Konstantin might have a set or two...

How are you mating the 944 TurboS head with the 968 block? The water passages in front don't line up; they're offset from each other by about 1-inch. I think the only 2-valve heads that fit the 968 block is the 968 Turbo head.

And any aftermarket piston should have some features of the stock pistons. Such as forged hypereutectic (strong low-expansion) and iron-coated sides.

Really ?
Strange I do not see Porsche casting special heads for 968 turbo for only 14 cars...

Maybe they used the 2.7 L. head as the block is looking like to be the same as the one used on 968/944 S2.

How Huntley , Powerhouse and the others offers 3. 0 L. turbo engine , if you look at the picture on Huntley site you will see the 3.0 L block being prepared for the "conversion" (siamese cylinder bores) and small head studs...

I really intent to do so.... but I have no practical ideas for the problems that may occur except for the pistons that really needs a deep dish.

Hmmm, I don't see a 3.0L turbo on Powerhaus's site, only a 2.8L stroker (3.0L crank on 2.5L block). And you want to stay way from Huntley (too many horror stories).

Maybe they used the 2.7 L. head as the block is looking like to be the same as the one used on 968/944 S2.

Yes there was indeed a 968 Turbo specific 2-valve head. Chris Cevelli of Technodyne is one of the few people in the US who actually has a 968 Turbo engine. But he replaced the head with a 2.7L NA one because he said the ports were larger and it flowed better than the 968 Turbo head.

Here's a comparison of the 968 vs. 951 block at the front end where the water passageway differs. I'm not sure how you would make the Turbo head fit onto the 968 block:

Wink

Thank's Danno for the info...
Bad news ...

I think it should be possible to modify the block by welding a custom water passage not really easy but possible.
The 2.7 L. block has the same water passage as the turbo block or it is the head that is different ?
Because how Chris from Technodyne put the 2.7 L head on the 68 turbo block ???
-A/ the head is cast the same way as the 68 TRS head
-B/ the 968 turbo block has a different water passage than the stock 968
so the head is not different or Chris has modified a 2.7 L. head...
I am really confused ....

Where to find pictures of 968 TRS head or Block or even 944 2.7 block and head..

A little welding followed by grinding and walla! Perfect fit.
