Question What would you pay for your 944 today, AS IS???

I admit it! I have too much invested in my early 85 944 automatic. (Yea, I know, but the wife does not drive a straight shift. And besides, its a daily driver.) I can't help it. Its like an addiction. I totally love how it looks, drives, sounds, feels, etc... But with my "over-funding" and preventative maintainance comes total peace of mind while cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Great Smokey Mountains of western NC, 2 hours from my mechanic. Well, now I'm thinking "Boxter" & extended warranty. Thus this posting. I need to sell it for the down payment. But I refuse to "give it away". I have nearly $9300. in a car that E-Bay, Autotrader, and others say is worth @ $4500. This car has 68K documented miles & $8000 in reciepts since 6-01 (between myself & the previous owner). I am the 4th owner and the car needs only a dash cover, driver seat re-upholstering, & an A+ repaint to be in near showroom condition. The paint is not bad but the previous repaint was obviously done at a "Quicky-Paint". Now, should I sell & take my medicine, or hold the car in hopes of a renewed appreciation of automotive excellance. So, lets start a poll.
If you saw your car as it is today in a front yard with a for sale sign on it, what would you pay to buy it????? Only take into your account what you can document in writing, your previous research, and your particular passion for the 944 in general. I realize that a car, or anything for that matter, is only worth what a person is willing to pay...therefore I feel that only 944 owners can determine what a 944 is worth. Lets set the standard here & now. State year, model, miles, condition on a 1 to 10 scale (with 10 representing perfect, concours condition) & fair price. Potential buyers & sellers may use this list as a referance to buy YOUR car, so BE HONEST!!! (And wave at fellow Porsche drivers. You might be waving at me). Peace!

Well, since I just bought mine 2 weeks ago...

1986 944 Turbo
109000 miles on the clock
9/10ths exterior (minor, fairly well repaired paint chips)
7.5/10ths interior (dash cracking)
Something that I consider a premium - it's NOT red, black or white - Kalahari Gold

NO records (other than what I've collected in the past 2 weeks, a few hundred dollars to correct minor things). The only things it needs are ball joints (have them, soon to be installed) and Maybe a PS rack (it looks like it might be weeping a little in the boots).

I paid $6000, and would be willing to bet I could sell it for $1000~1500 more without Any waiting. I wouldn't have bought it for any more money though - there are to many good deals out there if you're willing to shop a bit (which I was).

Well lets see as it sits right now the car has no seats, almost no suspension, the t-bars are in the rear, but nothing at the front corners, and the shocks are out of the back. So as it sits i'd take 4k for it....

But the new suspension is on the way, probably two more weeks, and the seats are going in (sparco pro2000's) So with all that stuff in it I would take 9k for her. At the high end, but I did not buy this car to try to turn around and sell her....

Huh... Don´t really want to think about how much I´ve spent on my S2...

Bought it in april this year for app. $9000 and has put about $4000 more in parts/upgrades, tires and labour..

On the other hand, it´s now very personal to me and it really feels like it is "my Porsche" like in "my girlfriend"...

And I have driven 15.000 miles with it continously smiling..

It´s worth every penny, believe me. Wouldn´t even trade it for a girlfriend...

And what I would pay for it, probably about 9-10.000 - but it isn´t up for sale.

Mine is at half way point of its restoration path. Needs front suspension rebuilt, paint and interior. I have around $3K invested and already took it to one driving school event. It is realable, but looks crappy. New paint is coming soon. I would pay me $2500 for it. But I wouldn't sell it to myself, I don't know the guy! For all I know, he wouldn't take as good care of it as I will....

Thanks.

$5,000 for my NA. Lot's of stuff replaced in there with better more durable parts...but I still want that 951 tranny outta there

As for our 928 S4, nothing under 18,000. The car is in CONCOURS condition and is our big garage queen

But don't get any ideas....these cars are keepers like a girl that is madly in love with you

I will never sell mine. It really has become quite a sentimental item in my life. I think about this often and I do not think I can ever sell it. Since I am having a lot of problems with it though, I am thinking of storing it for a while and buying another car until I have more money to fix it. Realistically though, I would take no less than $8000, even though it is worth nowhere near that amount.

Id say I was closing in on throwing 20grand into it in the last 6 years or so. But Its worth way more to me than it would be to anyone else, so Im sure I will never let it go.
Speaking of that, I have a list of about $12,000 more upgrades before It reaches a level that I can live with
Oneday..im going to add everything up...but not anytime soon!

You guys are depressing me. You are reminding me of how I will be forced to sell my euro spec 944 when I leave Germany. I would keep it forever but it would be around $7-8k to import and convert it. It is a first year car, '82, Fully loaded, (sport seats, power windows, A/C) Completely imaculant. Last night I spent about 5 hours cleaning it. I have added 16" phone dials, Toyo 225/245 tires, 250lb springs, 28mm T-bars, Turbo S sway bars. I will out handle most cars on the road. I love it! I would never sell it if I didn't have to, just buy it another friend or two. Maybe a big brother like a 968

Two answer your original question, If I had to sell it now I would hope to get $4000-4500 for it. I think that is fair. Also all maint. has been doing recently. Belts, all rollers & pulleys, motor mounts, plugs, hoses, water pump. Soon to be done is new clutch master cyl and Rod bearings.

Only 1 year and 7 months until I have to sell my car... I am going to start the "Help Mike pay to import his car fund" charity....

This calls for a photo!!! Just took these 5min ago....
