968 Thermometer in a 944? Doable?
How difficult would this be? Has anyone done it and what parts would I need? My (everyones?) stereo tells me the time so I'd like to have the outside temperature and I head the 968 had this feature. Where was the sensor located? Woudln't this upgrade likely be just a "buy-the-parts-and-bolt-them-in" job?
I'm wondering if I could get the sensor and little LED guage from some place like 944 Ecology? But is there a wiring harness issue to contend with too?

It's very doable, Roberto has done it on his 944, I will be doing it on mine as soon as the temp sensor arrives. The temp sensor is mounted in the passenger mirror. You will need the sensor and display from the 968, you will need to splice in the correct connector for the display and run wires through the door to the mirror. Not a big job at all.

Oops, I forgot I was going to do a follow up on this. It's very simple, as long as you have the pinout of the tempdisplay and your present clock. You'll also need the display of course, the connecter plug makes it a nice clean wiring job, and then the sensor. I'll go find a digi cam and post some pics. Thanks, for reminding me.

Roberto, you wrote "...as long as you have the pinout of the tempdisplay" Huh?
I need the display and sensor from a 968 and what else do I need? Are you talking about some kind of plug? Did you get yours second hand or from the dealership? And how does the sensor mount inside of the mirror? Those pictures would be really helpful. Thanks, Dan

Dan, by Pinout of the tempdisplay, I meant a diagram showing the voltages and where the associated pins and wires must be hooked together. The clock has 4 pins(12v, ground, and 12v switched, ground. The tempdisplay has six pins, same as above plus two for the thermometer. I will post a listing of the pin numbers and the associated wires. As for the pics, I have to go back to work in a few hours, so Saturday is the soonest I'd have time to bust out a cam. Thats what happend last time I forgot to post back with details. Someone feel free to send me a "kick in the @$$" E-mail or just bump this thread come Saturday to remind me. Finally, the temp sensor was mounted in the aero style mirror of the 968 with a special bracket and peeked out of the bottom of the mirror through a hole. The 944 flag mirror looks like it has a hole in the same place that could be used, but I'm going with Aero's soon. So as for now, my sensor just sits on the floor behind the radio. It gets a little warm there.

AKKK! Sorry, didn't see all the bumps, I just turned on the E-mail notification so I should get any future bumps. Keep forgeting all about it. I'll have to bring all the parts up to my pc so I can take pics. My digi cam took a jump off a table. Do you have the sensor the display and the plug?
