Hi Folks -
Snapped some pics of "Plan Jane" the non-wonder car this morning. This is my '88 Euro 8-valve non turbo no-options car. These shots show the front and rear bumpers pretty well. There was some discussion a while back about what Euro bumpers look like.
The car is shod with 9x16 and 10x16 BBS RS wheels, also a topic of some discussion a while back. The jury is still out on rather or not I'm going to keep them on this car. They don't rub anywhere, but that poor little engine really doesn't like having to push them around. The car felt a heck of a lot more nimble on it's 15" rims with snows. Nowhere near as much grip of course, but I like that light, nimble feel. So I can't help thinking a set of turbo phone dials with the 205/225 tires would be a better choice for this car. Of course, the car has its original worn out suspension in it too, which ain't helping things.

Sweet ride...
Does your title or registration use the Euro vin WP0ZZZ? Is there a VIN plate visible on the outside of the car (ex. US cars have it on the drivers side windshield post) Just wonderin'....Thanks!

Saw a post on 924.org where Vince Ponz is ordering a bunch from the U.K....Here is his post ...
[quote] Within the next couple of days I will be ordering front and rear Euro bumpers and mounts for a couple of people. Does anyone have interest in these lightweight bumpers. By the way I can get just about anything for your 931s and the 924s. Just remember the parts are coming from Europe. Used. Bumpers 160 ea. mounts 15 ea.+ freight to you in the US via UPS or about 25 per bumper. Remove old one replace with the used one. No mods and reversible. Email off the list so I can get back to ASAP

His email is ponzv@aol.com and HERE is the post...Dated today...
FYI...Just passing this info on (meaning I get no commission)

Yes the VIN is WPOZZZ94ZJNsomething something something. The importer put a little plaque on the dash saying this VIN is the substitute for the US VIN. The car is registered with the Euro VIN.
The 924 Euro front bumper is slightly different from the 944's. Rear is the same I believe.
These are the car's stock bumpers. UK spec cars have them, so when parts suppliers in the UK list front bumpers and rear bumpers, these are what you get.

Euro-spec rules!
Nice car too, btw. Just wondering if that thing is a product of the eighties grey market or has been here only recently. Also, you think the glass has been changed? Looks like it's in great shape nonetheless.

Interesting information. I'm ordering my rear Euro bumper from a used parts guy in Germany (I live in Berlin until May 2002).
Here's what you need for the rear:
944.505.039.01 Bracket, left EUR 50
477.807.131.17 Bracket, right EUR 15
951.505.069.00 Rub Strip EUR 50
951.505.387.00 Bumper EUR 170 new
plus some nuts and bolts
Total parts are EUR 285
(Dealer price to me is EUR 622)
So I'm getting a 54% discount. I don't see how you can do the rear bumper for another $100 less than this.
I'm also surprised by the "951" part number -- are you sure these will work on ALL 944 series?
With the front bumper, don't forget you need the driving lamps, too -- they should cost around $100 each.

The car is model year '88, but was imported to the states in '96. I bought it from the original owner/importer in '00. In '88 Porsche standardized the 944 engines worldwide, so this car has the same M44.09 engine that the US versions have, with the same emissions controls and everything. It was brought in through a registered importer, JK Motors in MD or VA - it was near where the previous owner lives. They didn't really do much to the car - they didn't touch the engine or exhaust or anything because it's the same as the US version. They put a US instrument cluster in it, put the wonderful sealed beam US headlights in it, and welded steel bars inbetween the bumper brackets to provide bumper reinforcement. I put a Euro instrument cluster back in, put H4's back in, and removed the steel bars - mainly because the welding distorted the brackets slightly and the bumpers didn't fit quite right.
The car is just like it was in Germany now, except that the headlight levelling system is missing. The control is gone, and the servos and brackets were removed when JK put the US lights in. '88 was the year Porsche implemented self-levelling (manually though a control in front of the gearshift where the fader used to be) and the harness is there. So I'm tracking down the parts to put this system back in.
To me it's the best of both worlds - US emissions and Euro features and appearance.
