Question 944 Stuck in Gear

Hi,

I have a 1988 2.5L 8-Valve 944. I have had it for a couple of years now and have had no problems at all... up-until the other day when I went to reverse out of my drive and accidentally put it into 4th gear. Now it is stuck in 4th and I cant get it out of gear. Any advise on how to fix this would be most appreciated.

Regards,
Sean.

Can you describe the condition a bit better. Does the shifter move easily but nothing happens? Is the shifter stuck in one position and can't be moved? How does the clutch pedal feel?

Oh yea, welcome to RL

I am a bike guy and new to cars so if this doesn't work then I apologize. Bikes get stuck in gear and need to just move the wheels a bit to position everything to allow the gears to engage/disengage. I would recommend pushing in the clutch and rolling the car a little forward or backward (kick it like a skateboard with your left foot) and retrying the shifter to see if you can get it to move.

Hi, thank you both for getting back to me.

The Clutch feels absolutely normal and the gear stick feels really loose. The gear stick will easily move in any position, however the transmition remains in 4th.

I will try giving it a push when I have a spare hand to help me.

Loose, like floppy? You need to look under the shifter. There are a couple of inexpensive little parts in there that may be causing your problem.

When my rubber clutch disc went out, the rubber chunks got stuck in the PP pressure plate and made it impossible to shift. Drove and rolled through many intersections in 4th gear to get home------just a thought

+1, this is the first place to look, sounds like the rear linkage has come loose.
