Anyone delete their OPRV and install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge in their 944 (I have an '83 that I race with)? What are the drawbacks. I recall talking to another racer who had removed their OPRV and installed an aftermarket reader / gauge.

Think you mean Oil Pressure Sender right? I have done that. OPRV delete would be bad!
Here is what I purchased from egauges.com

AFAIK most series won't let you run a mech. pressure gauge like this to the cabin. Maybe they do if you run a gauge isolator? That is the main issue/drawback.
Here is example of a typical isolator.

I run the stock guage it works fine and there is no high pressure oil in the cabin. I perfer electric gauges to keep the fluid where it belongs. Wire are are great for sending signals.

So I guess you can't delete this item - just the oil sender unit then.
