I wear size 11 shoe and ive driven the car in boots. It might be sitting position effecting your legs. I can drive it fine. I prefer tennis shoes or driving shoes. Its actually mutch easier to do in a DE situation...but the only problem is it is alot scarier if you are learning. Basically coming at a corner at 100mph and trying to HnT 50 feet before a barrier or tree was not easy on my mind. I just dont need to HnT on the street as much though. The real trick is getting the RPMs up there. Dont bother matching RPMs. I always match RPMs when i shift for smoothness. Thats the trick that got me doing this. Just redline the damn thing! Throw the needle up there. As you release the clutch it will fall inline with the RPMs perfectly, and if its not, it will be alot closer than if you let tried holding the rpms perfect until you let the clutch out. Throwing the tach up is much easier than matching in this technique. Thats why i said stomp the pedal. Just stab it with your heel and the moment it goes high, work the clutch back out.

attatched to an auto? Really. Wow. Lately ive just gotten SOOOOO bored driving my daily that is an auto. What i really want is another 944 as a daily car or a 911SC...actually i really want a Cayenne. The first two dont fit my daily needs though. The cayenne does! Actually i really want to go look at the Coopers. If it can hold my gear im sold! (im a musician with fight-cased equipment on a regular basis) In manual with the rally options...oh man...

Tony:
Interesting explanation of heel-toe. I've seen other drivers that move their knee in the opposite direction (right - towards the passenger) when blipping the throttle.

My problem with your technique and moving the knee towards the right is that at 6'2" (and all legs), there is just no room for my legs to go! With the extra width on the throttle pedal, I am able to blip the throttle. Now that I have practise, I can probably do heel-toe without the track pedals, but they look cool!

Also: STOMPing on the throttle is kinda scary: it is very easy to be over-enthusiastic about it and rev the engine too far. I've been told to blip the throttle to about 2000 rpm's higher than where you want the engine to be when you disengage the clutch: that way, if your coorindate the engagement of the gear with the revs dropping, you'll have a perfect shift! I think blipping to redline is too high.

turbite:
What I was getting at was the fact that your brake pedal will go lower when driving on the track, after constant threshold braking lap after lap after lap. You won't see this kinda use of brakes on the street, and brake pedal location greatly effects the heel-toe. (At least I HOPE your not braking like that on the street!) Back to DE: where have you driven? Isn't it the most fun you can have with a car?

Just my $0.42.

Moving your knee right would seem to move you out of position. To each his own i guess. I can hit the gas fine even with a fresh brake pedal with light braking with the way i explained it. The pedal is there. Just push your heel in towards it. About the stomping, its just that- a stomp. I do not hold the pedal in. (maybe i should have said that) Just slam it in to bring it up there and then let go. Like a punch. The moment you let go the clutch should be coming out to meet it at the proper rev on its own. Also, dont our cars have rev limiters? And i dont mean as far into red as you can, just redline. Like 6400 or whatever your car does.
As for track, Summit Point is the closest track to our region. In the fall im going to the new Shenandoah track out at Summit as well. I cant wait!

See, i was a little dumb this year (first year in PCA) and only signed up for the 2 days our region offered at summit that i could make. I am only 2 hours from there. I didnt realize i could go sign up with any region! Next year i will just browse the regions and see what is convenient for me and just attend those! Also, other regions dont fill as quickly. Our region has almost 3000 members and track time is VERY popular, so we have endless waiting lists. See if i just go with another region it will work soo much better. Actually, i might look into another track day in september or october. Thats the best place to learn heel and toe in my opinion.

NNJR is the largest region, and we have almost 2300 members!

If you are free on May 19-20, there's still room for you! Contact the NNJR track chair, Dave Novack:

If you decide to attend, and wish to work the morning tech line, let me know.

I placed a 16mm thick piece of MDF on the gas pedal and widened the top portion about 15mm so that the top of the MDF gas pedal is closer to the brake. I experimented with various shapes until I arrived at the one I now use, it enables easier Heel-Toe using the "roll your foot" method where I brake and accelerate with the ball of my foot. Under threshold braking the brake pedal is about level with the gas pedal. This setup works fine for street driving in runners or leather shoes as well.

Tony:
I have the numbers at home, but NNJR is the biggest region in terms of members, followed by CVR (Connecticut Valley Region) and Metro NY, but not necessarily in that order. Potomac is in the top 5, IIRC.

Potomac region is probably counting all democrats twice! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="eek.gif" />

I'll check tonight.
