Post Clutch free play

Does it hurt to have a little more free play than recommended? Haynes recommends 3mm (.12in) I have about .5in. It feels better set their because the clutch in gages faster. When adjusted to the 3mm the clutch is all the way out.

Does any one have any comments?

I never had to adjust my pedal. The clutch is self-adjusting and without manual adjustments as far as I know.

The Haynes manual tells you where the throw of the slave cylinder should be in the clutch inspection hole, but offers no explanation about what to do if its wrong.
