F-4s were "wackier" looking?

Man, the F-4 is THE sexiest plane EVER!!! The F-4 is HOT man, HOT.

And if you disagree with that, well, you're wrong.

I'm gonna have to go with the F6U Corasair on that count. It's an oldass WWII plane, but I put it next to 930's in terms of performance vs. coolness factor.

I've always been partial to F-16's myself...Small, light, nimble, no frills, cookie cutters...

And I can't rule out the A-10 as one rat bastard of an airplane.

Hate to say it, but I always thought the F4 was a bit...froggy.

Here's the cars I think of when I think of planes...

P-51 : Porsche 359 Speedster and Chevy Corvette ('67 Stingray) -- both come to mind.
F-4 : Ferrari Testorossa
F-15 : Porsche 911
F-16 : Porsche 993 Turbo
F-22 : Porsche 996 GT2
A-10 : Porsche 944

Those are the only ones I've really thought about. When I see an F-4, I think Ferrari. Weird, I don't know why, that's just what I think. That plane is the baddest M-F-er around. The Testorossa is classic, and has obvious '80s styling... but is still just as bad as the latest and greatest (much like the F-4). You just can't mess with the F-4. I love technology, and I'm sure some day in the future they'll be talking about the F-22 and F-35 in the same ways, but not me and not now.

When I see A-10, I think 944, probably because it's the red-headed step-child (excuse the phrase) of the Air Force in some respects. It's a grunt's jet, and I always picture the 944 as a grunts car, while the F-15 is the high-flying 911. Let's just continue to pray that the Army/Marine Corps want the A-10, because as long as they want it in their fleet, the Air Force will keep it.

I grew up around this **** man (both planes and Porsches) so that's probably why I would associate them at an early age.

The F-4... Good stuff

Trem, I think you were talking about the A-6 when you first posted... it was the star of Flight of the Intruder. The book was great as well.

GWB did indeed fly the Dagger. http://www.seanet.com/~johnco/bush102.htm

Or maybe he meant the Vought F4U Corsair... The orginial F4?

Definitely a beast of a plane. Didn't GHW Bush fly the F4U?

Bush Sr. flew the Grumman TBM Avenger

The Corsair was a neat bird... but I've always had an affinity for the P-47. This is one of my favorite images of all time:

George W. Bush Military Record — and Misrepresentations Pertaining to Military Records

In these days of guys who never fought in Vietnam launching aggressive and destabilizing attacks on other countries, it is interesting to see what George W. Bush did in the military, how he misrepresented it, and what's been done recently to make sure no one notices. Mr. Bush, whose permission to fly was revoked by the military (he was suspended, assigned to a disciplinary unit and not allowed to fly military assignments again) liked to portray himself to voters as a “fighter pilot.” But his embellishments didn’t stop there...

of course this is all conjecture, (i wasn't there at the time) so take it as you wish.

Well,

Since Denis decided to go ahead an hijack this thread, I'd like to request that it be moved to off topic before it turns into a flame war that wastes everyone's time here on the board.

Thanks, Denis.

This post was not Off Topic because Micah was giving wheel center caps for a 944 to Rennlist members. We started talking about planes and what not, and someone MERELY MENTIONED how GW flew the 102... That is a PLAIN and SIMPLE FACT, and for you to go off on your tyrade, essentially hijacking this thread and potentially turning it into YET ANOTHER flame war about Bush, I think was not the proper thing to do. Of course, I may be wrong.

Regardless of Bush's so-called record according to you, flying a fighter jet is a difficult task, and anyone who does it I have the utmost respect for.

Back on topic now, thanks Micah for giving those wheel caps to a Rennlist member. You're picture of the 47 (I assume) didn't come through. And you're right, GHW Bush flew the Avenger, I knew that, just wasn't thinking. What an amazing plane that was, built by automobile companies and normal every-day Americans.

With all due repect Matt, when the topic of discussion that goes from center wheel caps (Porsche) to how Shrub flew an Avenger and also went AWOL, my inclusion, (which deserves no respect and is not Porsche-related), I don't see how you can say that this isn't OT?

I will step off here at this point, as I feel I am relaizing that I am severly procrastinating and wasting my time in terms of discussing old WWII planes, Bush & other corrupt politicians, and the fact that flying a plane is different from electing a liar and a cowardly deserter.

One last one for the People....

To quote Matt, "What is right is not always popular", Thanks Matt!
