Post Do 944 S2 Brake Pad Sensors Have 2 Contacts?

I just got through replacing the pads on my 944-S2. It took me way longer than it should have, but after finishing I've noticed that the brake pad warning light is still on.

I got new sensors from the dealer, and they were a 944 part number (944.612.365.01) with 2 connectors. The sensors on my 1990 S2, however, have only 1 connector each, meaning they only connect to the inner brake pad in each caliper.

Since all the pads have grooves for the sensor connectors, I went ahead and connected each pad. I wonder if this is incorrect and is causing my brake pad warning light to come on?

TIA

Luis,
Connecting the two sensor wear indicators will not cause your brake pad warning light to illuminate. The S2 is supposed to have double sensors up front (both pads) and I think single sensors in the rear. I can't remember for sure about the rear but I know it is double sensors up front. Your car probably had single sensors installed from an NA prior to your brake job.

If your warning light is still on then there could be a problem with the connections at the strut (these sometimes become corroded) or with the warning system itself. Unfortunately, if there is a problem with the warning system itself you may have to have a Porsche mechanic use the Porsche diagnostic tool to reset your light but I am NOT sure.

Make sure your sensors are plugged in correctly.

Max, thanks for responding. I'm still in the dark here. Actually, I replaced the fronts with double sensors and the rears with singles, so my setup is just like you say. Had to get creative with the wire to the second connector so it wouldn't rub against anything while the car is in motion. Wrapped it around the locking pin.

However, now both the brake pad light and the ABS light are on. The sensors are correctly plugged, but I'm suspecting a dirty wheel speed sensor and the corrosion you mention in the brake pad warning mechanism.

Luis,

From my references, all 87-91 951, 944S2, and 968 use the same dual circuit pad sensors front and rear (the part # you listed). Since 1987, all the 944's have the same plug for the sensor no matter the model... so, it's possible that either the 944na/S/924S (single sensor) or the dual circuit sensors will work. There is really no price advantage - it may be a preference thing.

The stock routing of that wire (crossover) is to loop it through the retaining clip atop the pads.

Good Luck!
