Post How do I get the rust off Disc's After Winter storage?

My Heart goes out to Karl and Sam Hoping Sam gets well soon.

Question:

How do I get the rust off Disc's After Winter storage? I have the car on blocks and took off the wheels this season. I did not wrap up the rotors. Now they are rusted. What can I do to get them in shape for this weekends drive?

As far as I know, you don't need to worry about that rust. Obviously you shouldn't take the car "performance driving" right away, but with a little normal driving with a few hard braked stops mixed in the rust should be off within a few short drives. My dad stores one of his cars nearly 8 months a year, and doesn't ever worry about the rust. BTW, my dad races this car too so rust is really a non issue. However, for those first few miles, the car may brake fairly poorly.

How bad is the rotor rusting? If you are just talking about the brake surface, ride the brakes ounce and the pads will clean them right up. The rust will be burnt/scrapped off and you'll have a nice shiny surface again.

Just be careful the first time or 2 when you stop from 30 mph or so. Actually rust on the rotors isn't that uncommon we just don't notice it.

Just drive it . They will be a little grabby at first but it will come off, this happens to my motorcycle quite often, no big deal. <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />
