I just towed home our new (to us) 944 on the uhaul trailer instead of the dolly. I have a full size Dodge ram and the weight wasn't an issue but the uhaul trailer is a heavy bugger and built very well. Tows nice and the surgre brakes work well but have a delay so don't follow too close.

I could have used the dolly but felt better with the trailer for $10 difference in price. $45 for the dolly and $55 for the trailer.

The way the uhaul work with the tie coens over the front tires, I'm not sure you could have moved it back too much if at all. the car seems to me that it has to be up against the from blocks to be secure as there is no rear tie down ratchet, just a safety chain.

Do they monitor mileage on those things or what?

I liked the front wheel tie-down system on the U-Haul. It didn't give you much flexibility on where to put the car, but as it turns out, the 944's weight distribution works really well. It's also hard to screw up.

It was my first time ever towing, and it was really a breeze.

And as far as I know, there are no charges or limits for miles, just a daily rate.

y the uhaul tends to overload the tongue weight if you drive the car all the way up the trailer. have to adjust that next time.

I did over 2000 miles pulling a 26' enclosed trailer with a E-350 (carborated 460 and the old 3-speed C-6 slush box) carrying a dozen people and thier gear. All-up weight of that rig was North of 14,000#; at that point, it wouldn't have made a difference if you threw another 4000 pounds in the mix.

No, this was back in the day when gas was about $1.30 a gallon.
