I'm experiencing the same thing on a car I just bought. I'm working through the possible problems, doing cap, rotor, wires, filters, etc. then I'll get the injectors cleaned/balanced, and move on from there. It's just an annoyance now, but I'd rather take steps in the right direction to fix it, vs. waiting until something goes wrong.
I'll post about any steps that I take that help my case.

This is from the SDS installation manual: Use caution at high throttle openings with severe stumbles. You can melt the pistons if the mixture is too lean.
Just thought I'd point out that stumbles are'n't quite as innocuous as they are often perceived.

Paul,
I'm sorry, I did'n't address your question fully.
I'd look into thing that would create extreme leaness when you open the throttle. Perhaps the water temp sensor is flaky and the DME thinks the
motor is warmer than it really is. I have first hand experience with stumbles caused by this mechanism. They were cured with a thirty dollar sensor.
Good Luck

That's strange...my '83 runs best when cold/cool. I've added MSD 6AL and gapped the Bosch Platinums to handle the bigger spark and I have no problems of missing or fouling when cold. Another thing I thought of (after reading Russ' response) is for your fuel. Lucas Oil makes a fuel stabilizer/lubricant that I used and it smoothed my engine even more than the MSD did. It cleans the system and restores it to like new flow and function (atleast for me it did). Hope you get it worked out.
