You definitely are not the first person to have this problem. How a pair of $1 parts can cause so much discussion on a $45,000 car is beyond me. If it is making noise that is your good news. It sounds like the gears are stripped out or the cable is broken. Either one is relatively easy to fix, but very time consuming. The first time mine went out I paid $200 to get it fixed. the second time I did the smart thing, asked the guys on the board and they gave me exact directions on how to fix it. It has been only a couple of months and I did a search to see if I could link it for you, but could not locate the thread. First you need to verify which part is broken. Does the sunroof come open while you are driving over about 60? If it does it is most likely the plastic gears. You can also try sitting in the seat and pushing the sunroof. If it comes open easily that would indicate the gears. Try those and let us know what you find.

bobby brown and others, thanks for the info. well when im driving over 70mph, the rear part of the sunroof (where the 2 hinges are) flaps and opens up. and when im stopped/parked, i can lift the sunroof up easily with my hand.

so do u think its the plastic gears? how much?

The gears itself cost about $3 a piece. Installing them cost some time but following the sunroof guide it ain't to difficult. You only have to oosen the roof liner to get to the gear boxes. While my roof was damaged already and there is a cover over it I just made 2 cuts to get to them.

The aligment is to see 2 or 3 teeth out of the gearbox when the motor is in stop position.

Check also that the drive cable does not come out the right gearbox when you extract the lifters to remove the roof. If it comes out you have to adjust the switches in the rear.
