Post desktop dyno

Has anyone used desktop dyno and compared the results to an actual dyno? I was wondering how accurate it was? I have been playing around with it the last couple of days and some of the numbers I am getting seem to be a little off. Like a 14hp gain going from the stock exhaust to a small tube header.
On another note I thought it was quite interesting that according to desktop dyno the custom ground cam I have is supposed to put out 3hp less than a stock cam.
Any thought or comments?

It is a computer program where you input your engine type and specifications, such as compression ratio, cam profile, type of induction, and it computes the engines horsepower and torque curves.

Were you able to accurately model a stock 944na? You have to enter all the parameters in to perfectly predict the performance of the stock car first (down to shape of torque-curve) before you can do 'what-if' types of modifications.

That's what I was wondering. Actually the program seems to be more tailored to the American engines. I just though it was interesting that if I went from stock exhaust manifold to small tube headers it said I would gain 14hp.

Was that in going from a 4-2-1 header to a long-tube 4-1 header? I'm sure that would definitely yield more peak-HP, but what about the shape of the torque curve? I'm looking at the head and I'm thinking opening up the side of the combustion chamber on the outside of the intake-valves would yield an increase in flow. Would your software be able to tell me how much to take off and what kind of shape to contour the cuts? I think it's worth at least 5hp in the upper-RPMs and combined with the headers, that's a 20hp gain right there !!!

The software does not go into that much detail. It lists stock intake manifolds with mufflers, then small tube headers with muffler, without muffler, large tube headers with and without.
As far as head work goes it will allow you to plug in known flow valves for modfied heads but does not get into how to modify. I think the only way you are going to get true flow numbers is to use a flowbench. Once you have the stock flow numbers and the modified numbers it will calculate the HP gains.
I know I am a little late on this but do you still need that info? Today has been the first day I have been able to get on since I sent you that e-mail.
PS: If you want the software let me know and I can get you a copy.
