944 vs. 951 Oil cooler

I was wondering if the 951 suffers the oil to coolant leaks that the 944 sometimes does. I know they use a different casting since the 951 uses an external cooler, but is there still a tendancy for the assembly to leak into the cooling system?
And part two, if the blocks are pretty much the same, and the 951 setup does not leak, would it be an OK idea to switch to the 951 setup on a 944 block and use an external cooler?

was thinking of that very thing. do let us know if you do it and how much of a pain it is. also you dont have to use the cooler from the turbo, you could get one of the aftermarket coolers and save a little money.

The oil cooler seals on all 944 & 951 models can leak allowing oil & coolant to mix. Very bad thing to happen to your motor!!! I believe a 951 oil cooler housing can be used a 944 but hopefully another lister can confirm this.

I have been wondering about this or some other more leak proof conversion for a while. I don't intend to use the 951's coiler, just the housing.
How many different places actually leak? I was thinking about coming up with a conversion where the inlet and outlet for the heat exchanger on the block are maybe threaded and then looped with pipe and fittings. Then use a sandwich plate (with thermostat) under the filter to add an external cooler. This maybe be an alternative, but kind of seems like it would be a PITA.
