Well mine is Fiberglass. As far as I know it's the original.
I talked to George at 944 Ecology and he says they are not directly swappable. Or should I say the non-electric version is not swapable for an electric. Something about having to cut the roof to get it in.

m758: its funny you mention spec 944 because i was giving serious thought to run with you guys. i went down to stuttgart southwest last saturday, and i had a blast. i was talking to joe about it (if you are joe, i'm going to feel like a damn fool!) and was surprised at how little it cost to start racing this series. my only problem is the one phrase jack keeps telling me, i think it's his mantra, "don't f*** with your daily transportation" right now, that is the one thing holding me back. if i screw up (god forbid) it's a long *** bike ride from thunderbird to indian school. especially with out a bike, and in the az summer!
but before this, i already had every intention of tracking the car in the near future. i just didn't want to do that because i stripped out p-car makes for lousy date transportation. ok, that's only part of the reason. although, it would be awesome to find a girl who could haddle the car! but thats another post entirely.
i really don't mind driving a stripped car every day and so far the niose hasn't bothered me. even with the windows up and the radio off. for some reason i remember it being louder.
i think agree with the general consensus: i'm at about my limit for weight reduction with a steel body, and climate control. i'll keep you posted if i come up with anything, but honey is not ready for the baily total fitness program yet. i'll post some pics when the interior is painted.
take care guys and thanks so much for you help!

Bullemia and Anorexia are very serious illnesses in the world. Be sure your car isn't a victim of it.
Symptoms of Anorexia or Bullemia:
-lightened weight
-no carpet or insulation
-missing spare tire
-1 seat only
-carbon fiber dash
-carbon fiber or fiberglass body panels
-door panels removied
-plexi glass windows
-absence of AC or Power steering
Only you can prevent these symptoms. Help Save a Life...

Well, glad to heard that you are interfacing with our group. Honestly I would not race a daily driver and never my only car. Not really worth it. If it is a second car then fine. Right now it is probably best to stop where you are. You can leave it as is and just drive it and enjoy autocross and the occasional DE. There is guy locally that has stripped out (No carpet AC or Heat) 911 SC that is his track car. Does not race, but does at least 1 track event each month.
Drop by our next race (10/26 & 10/27) at Firebird Main and check out the goings on. There will be a DE as well.
Also a number of us will be bring out cars out to the PCA events Nov 2 & 3 (Show for Saturday (show cars & race cars) & Autocross Sunday). Since there are so many spec cars in the valley now autocross is really competitive. Your car will fit right in.
Maybe in a couple years you will have the opprotunity to go all out and race the car.

Okay, I have to jump in now- as many here know, I have been trying to cut weight from this heavy beast for a long time now- the 951 is a heavy car for it's size- it weighs ~3160 w/full tank, interior, etc... Now, I don't know why so many people say the panels are fibreglass, b/c everyone I take my car to and mention that, they alll say the panels ARE NOT fiberglass. Also, why would fiberglass panels from GT RAcing, etc be any lighter than stock if stock were also fiberglss? I'm not trying to argue- I just don't believe it- now they MAY in fuct be a fiberglass composite of some sort. And, I may be dead wrong
As for sheding weight from these porkers- I've been weighing a lot of items to see what would actually be worth doing- first off, the cars (when bone stock) are too loud for what they are, considering level of power, handling, luxury, etc- they need to reduce the decible load by just a tiny bit- one major thing is wind and gear noise at speed- I've got some 968 mirrors going on- hopefully that will help a little. I've also got some 968 handles- doubt that will help noise at all. The car is a hatch- hatchbacks are generally louder than coupes/sedans. Also, a decent bit of road noise is transmited through the drivetrain, tires, transaxle, susp, etc- for instance, a helical LSD should be quieter than a clutch type (based on people I trust who have told me)- not sure if Helical is better, nor do I know where Torsen sits in this. Also, tires are widere- they make more noise- dif tires are better than others though. The susp is not a multi-link like the M3's or something- that would really help, etc- the exhaust- I'm not sure how much better this could be w/out restricting- maybe a dual set-up w/dual cats? Problem- extra weight. The best car on my ears- BMW 540i- they are pushing the 4000lb barrier too. I hate this fact- I want the car to be ~20% lighter w/FULL interior & amenities, etc, yet be a little quieter than it was brand new- good luck right?
So, weight- unfu**ingfortunately, it is much easier to pull weight from the rear of these cars, and if anything, they need more weight to be removed from the front. I'd ratehr go Lexan on the winshield than rear hatch- the hatch would look kind of silly IMO w/out the defrosters too. Anyway, I've weighed a few things, and, have had other's weigh things for me- some of the things I've weighed didn't match EXACTLY what other's reported, but were close...
Split rear seat: 9lbs each, so, 18lbs total add the brackets, seat-belts, etc, and you'll have removed ~25lbs. This looks like complete sh** however, and I wouldn't recommend it unles you're ready top remove the bottom and actually carpet the area or create something to make it look nice. The bottom weighs 8lbs, so total rear seat/belt removal- ~33lbs. But, you'd actusally add a few back to make it presentable unless you coud handle the eyesore...
Battery- standard sizes weigh b/t 30 & 35 There are people who make drycells that are ultra-light. DO NOT get the heavy-*** Optimas. I know a guy who does stuff for Mazda RX-7TT's.
Bursch cats are ~12lbs lighter than stock- not sure how SS compare....
???????????????
I picked up some 12-way elec adj and heated SPORT seats At Garrity Repta's- people had told me they weighaed as much as 80lbs each(!). He said they were MUCH lighter- I picked up both from a pair (wish I had a scale w/me) and they couldn't have weighed over 40lbs each. Garrity swore they had all the motors, etc inside them...
The red aluminum spare weighs 29lbs...
The electric SR lid from a Turbo s weighs 19lbs. The manual from a 924 ia 17lbs...
Ever think of GT3 calipers- SCREW the wimpy little
BR's, and get some ceramic rotors, etc. Not sure about rims- the lightest 17" wheels out there, that are factory are the 993 rims- they're a hair lighter than the 16" Club Sports, which are a hair lighter than 17" C2's...
