Post fix odometer?

I've read that I need to get a little plastic gear to fix my odometer in my 1986 944.

Anyone know which part#, cost, where to get it?

Thanks! <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

I also have an 86 944 and my odometer quit on me. I have heard about buying a gear but I think it would be difficult to install, the dash would probally have to be taken off. I want mine to work so I can particapate in PCA Road Rallys.

Hi,

My odometer just quit a few months ago. Bought the gear from a guy names scott levy, and when it arrived I was surprised to se how easy it was to do. The Dash bezel has to be removed with the steering wheel. Then remove the instrument cluster, and then I just followed scott's directions on how to actualy take apart the instruments. It took me about 1 hour to do. Most of the time going to taking the dash bezel and steering wheel.

Bottom line. It seemed hard, the instrument cluster looked extremely intimidating. But it was very simple.

Judd-

You mentioned about the instructions...

Here is a link for dash removal that covers removing the steering wheel and related trim.

I'm sorry. I don't have the early gear. You might check with some dismantlers and see if they have any early speedo's avail.

Is your speedo broken too, or just the odo?
For the early model, the speedo and odo are both driven off a mechanical speedo cable. If you disconnect the speedo guage and try driving the car, you should see the cable spinning. If not, cable trouble. If so, odo trouble.
