Hey Folks,
My friend stripped the oil drain bolt on his WRX. What can/should he do now? Can it be tapped to receive a bigger size drain bolt? Should he just tow it to a shop to do it?
All suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
SM

Kind of the lazy/cheap way out but he can go to a local auto parts store and buy a single oversized oil drain plug ($5). They are self tapping, work really well, and don't leave metal shavings in the pan (magnetic). They also have double and triple oversized ones as well. The ideal route would be to re-tap or replace the pan but this way is a lot cheaper and easier. I've stripped out a few pans before and had really good luck with the oversized method.

Another solution although not cheap is to buy a Timesert kit for oil pans from someone like Baum.
He's not the only one to do this, and that's why other solutions are available.
