Default oil pressure at top

My 84 944's oil pressure guage is always at the top of the scale. It's been like that since I had the head gasket replaced. I don't think replacing the head gasket had anything to do with it but I'm looking for what may be making it act that way. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to replace the sender unit.....anybody have any other ideas?????? It's running fine...no problem,,,,no oil leaks....everything seems normal.

Does it shoot up to the top when you turn the key but before you start it? I think that means one of the wires is disconnected at the sensor.

I just checked and it goes to the top about 2 seconds after I start the engine and it appears that both wires are in place.....

Switch the wires before spending money.

That seems normal then. It should go down at idle once the engine gets fully warm. Like 10-15 minutes of driving. Unless your oil is really thick then it might barely go down at idle.

I tried to switch the wires around on the sensor and couldn't get my hand in to grab the wires. Since I had an appointment to get my air conditioner recharged I asked my longtime mechanic to take a crack at getting to the sensor wires. He eventually put it up on a rack and was able to reach the wires from underneath after taking off the shield below the engine. He reversed the wires and now the guage functions correctly. Thanks guys...
