Well, here's my newbie question for all of you. I've done some research and can't find very much info. on this.
I have an '83 944 N/A manual steering. Both inner tie rods are shot, but the outers are fine. I've priced the assembly and (as I'm sure many of you know) they're about $90 each. Then, I found some info about using VW tie rod assemblies instead. Does anyone have part numbers or the specific tie rod assembly that will work for this?
Like I said, I only want the inners, so I don't even care if the outers fit or are wimpy because I'm going to keep the outers that I have in there in.
Please, don't badger about using Porsche parts because they are so much more superior... blah, blah, blah. I know, I'd rather be using the Porsche tie rods and will probably end up using them anyway. But for 1/3 the cost, the VW interchange is something to consider IMO.

VW does supply the joint as loose item.
Best bet is to take the rods out and pay a visit to the loval VW dealer.
Fair chance you will find the correct rod in the early golf / rabbit or late beetle 1302 series.
Double check the dimentions with an vernier.
