Question Upper Strut Mount Discrepancy

I am replacing the front strut inserts and upper strut mounts on my ’88 924S with the standard suspension.

The strut mounts I received from Europroducts are slightly different from each other. They both have the same part # (944.343.071.00) molded into the rubber, but differ in the “bearing” area. The smaller inside diameter washer-like piece that’s part of the bearing appears to be above the ball bearings on one and below the ball bearings on the other.
When I measure the parts, the difference in the vertical location of the washer-like piece is about 7mm.

I am reluctant to disassemble the old strut until I’m sure that these mounts are equivalent. My question is: How do all the pieces at the top of the strut fit together and will this difference in the mounts change the ride-height or some other suspension characteristic from side to side? The PET CD shows all the washers, spacers and bits, but it’s unclear what purpose all the parts serve.

I would post photos, but I can't find a how-to in the FAQ.

Thanks for the help.

Keith, the bearing was installed upsidedown in the one on the left, either during assembley from the mfg'r or by some one who bought it and returned it. You should be able to pop it out very gingerly so as not to damage it from the top side and put it back in the other way. When you pull your old ones apart you will see what I mean, they are both supposed to look like the one on the right. I had the same exact thing happen to me with a pair I bought for my VW (same design)
Good luck

Send the one that is upside down back to Europroducts. Ian is a good man, and will work things out.. that is if you have the time to send it out, and get a new one.
