Question New owner requesting help

I am a new member who just bought a 1993 Porsche 968. It is a fantastic car, though I am quickly realizing that it is built like a race car with the assumption that maintenance is a necessary evil.

I live in Brooklyn, NY and was wondering if there were owners in the area who could recommend Porsche shops in the Tri-State area, ideally I am looking for something in the range of 50 miles.

Thanks in advance.

There is a new porsche shop in long island that opened not too long ago. Send a pm to Stephen601, asking for the place. Master mechanic Jason did his work on his car and is very pleased with it. In your PM, tell him you'll thank him by "baking cookies" for him. He likes cookies.

Thumbs up

Welcome to Rennlist & congrats on buying one of the nicest Porsche around, got the same a 93 coupe ,what is your's a Cab or Coupe?there no more major maintenance to be done on a 968 then a 951/944S or S2 they are all about the same & once the major is done your usually good for 35,000 miles or so of course like any cars there is always small maintenance items to be look after unless it is park & not driven. And +1 for being a paid up member on your first post, I suggest you send use pics (we are pics addicts here) of your machine & you introduce yourself on the 968 rennlist forum.Cheers & enjoye your new ride.

the shop is clean as a whistle, they have a good reputation in my area.
also IF you want to come out the suburbs and do some driving, tag along on a Connecticut Valley Porsche club drives and meets, let me know....always looking for other 944,924,968 and such, owners to drive back roads with open to all.

Thank you for the responses and for being very welcoming. Just got caught in work (got to keep working to feed the beast) and couldn't respond earlier. Thanks James and Kem for your suggestions. I will check them out.

Ernie, its a Coupe. Mostly in really great shape. I peered under the hood last weekend to check out a few things. It was good news and bad (probably often the case with these cars). The belts look to be in great nick, but found that one of the cam gears had a chipped tooth. Understand that it means replacing the whole cam. Rather do it sooner than later, hence the scramble for finding a shop. The previous owner lived in California, bought the car there and drove it across. So can't use the same shop.

James, thanks for the club invite, will definitely consider.

No problem Rahul,
I know a lot of great roads up here in West Chester and Putnam, NY and Fair Field, CT.
I have a 25 year sport bike motor cycle back round so I love the twisty and my 944 was a perfect choice. I would love to get a small group of 3-10 Porsche's (all 924,944,968's would be great) and try to meet every weekend for drives....Open to all.
keep us posted
James
