Not sure if this helps. I replaced my coil last week with one ordered through WorldPac (part distributor). Here is the box tag.

Why not use an msd blaster coil? They should be easy to find at any of those places.

I've got coils that are more than 35 years old that still work. They are not what one would consider a wear item. For the most part they work until they stop working.

I tend to agree they aren't a "wear item", but with modern engines, the heat really gets to them. I've heard of two coils exploding over the last month, it's been really hot in the SW. I wouldn't have thought it possible, but one picture posted (of the oil-filled type, which the 944's use) looked like a bomb went off. It isn't normal practice to replace them as part of a tune-up, tho.

I was also in the same school of thought that coils either work or dont work. I opted to change mine as it was 23 years old with 123k miles on it. I figured it was the last original item in the ignition system and they are pretty cheap at $60. I swear my vacuum to boost transition is much smoother now.. but that could just be the old butt dyno out of calibration.

So does a clutch, head gasket, light bulb.... I can go on...

I have a MSD Blaster coil in my N/A... make sure if you go this route you get (might have to order) the ballast resistor as the MSD coil is rumored to draw enough current to damage the DME ignition circuit!

I am running with the ballast resistor and have had zero issues in almost 2 years... 20K or so driven...
