You would need to somehow convert the motion of twisting the key into a sloenoid or something that was activated by the button. My friend's S2000 has push-start, and it is pretty cool.

Snip the trigger wire at the starter solenoid, route a hot wire to one side of the push button, and a replacement wire from the other side to the trigger post...but why ?

There is a molex connector behind the brake booster. This connector will bypass the ignition switch. You can run a wire from the battery positive to a button and a wire from the hot side of the molex connector male pin to the button. You still have to put the key in and put it in position 2, then you could press the button and the car will fire right up. Pretty easy to do, but as Mark said.... Why?

B/c ALL REAL race cars have a push button starter. I'm just waiting for an ignition switch in ANY of my cars to go bad just so I'll have an excuse (my wife will buy) to do it.

I thought that every car that left the Porsche factory was a race car.

Hey, you've already got the neon interior pieces and those painted red calipers... why not add a pushbutton! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />

i did this on my gold '84.

they sell the push button starter from an s2000 on a hanaaccessories.com i think its called. its about 35 bucks. anyways, i hooked it up through a relay so i wouldnt fry the switch. i just cut the red/black wire coming out of the ingnition switch so the key did not work anymore. anyway, you guys no how to hook up relays, so i wont get to into it. the trick is to have the low voltage side of the relay be controlled by the push button, and something that kicks on with the accessory setting so you cant just start the car. i used the radio relay because its right there under the dash on the early cars. also, if you use the honda piece, you only use three of the five prongs on the back. one is for the illumination, "engine start" lights up. the other two are the ground, and the wire to activate the relay in our case. there is a very good explination online somewhere. i guy did it on his miata and put it into the cigarette lighter hole. thats where i put mine, and it looked bitchin' in the center of the console of the early dash. i dont remember the site name, but ive found it multiple times using webcrawler. im definatly going to do it on my new car when i get the dough! good luck!

Interesting. I wish I had thought of this when the ignition switch/lock cylinder went bad in my '83 and cost a small fortune to replace
