Post Cam tower leak help...

Alrighty...you might remember <a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/cgi-bin/rennforums/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=019809" target="_blank">this post</a> I made recently.

Clark's Garage was posted, and I found this. <a href="http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/cam-03.htm" target="_blank">http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/cam-03.htm</a>

What is a woodruff key?

Also, is it necessary to replace the rear cam hosing gasket at the same time as the front?

Lastly...what parts do I need for this? I need to order them ASAP.

I found this at Pelican Parts, <a href="http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_engine_pg1.htm#item2" target="_blank">http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/944M/POR_944M_engine_pg1.htm#item2</a>

It mentions just one cam housing gasket, yet Clark's Garage talks about the front and rear gaskets (being two seperate pieces)...so...WTF?
What do I need to do this?

You are going to need a real strong impact gun to remove the bolt securing the cam gear to the camshaft. Sometimes, I have to strip the bolt and drill it out even with a snap on socket. If you could, take it to a shop to do this after you remove the camtower. I would guess you have a leak from the camtower gasket and not from the front seal, at least I hope for your sake its not. If you take it to someone who knows what they are doing and not having to change the timing belt, you can replace the gaskets in about one hour. Spray it off first to make sure where its leaking from before you go messing with a woodruff key which is what keeps the cam gear spinning with respect to the camshaft.

*woosh!*

What? I have no impact gun, nor do I have access to one. I have no drill either.

I'm thinking this is way over my mechanical abilities and tool owning abilities, too...

Carefull about using an impact wrench on the Cam Sprocket Gear. Soak in for atleast 24hrs in Liquid Wrench. Make sure the Flywheel is locked, and use the correct "triple-square" wrench. An Allen wrench with only damage the head. If you have an early head, it may still have a Allen Key bolt (CHeesehead), and should be replaced. Realized removing the Cam Spocket Gear will require you to re-tension the belts. Make sure you have all the tools you need before you start.

The Woodruff key is a small metal Crescent shape object used as a "key" to prevent the Gear from rotating.

Good Luck.
