So I'm putting the top end of the engine back together and I'm installing a new timing belt. The cam timing mark is #1 cyl at tdc; during the process/struggle I "lost" my OT position on the flywheel. Now I'm moving the crank around trying to find the mark and I suddenly realize the brain skip -- holy crap I'm moving the crank around with the Tbelt off the cam gear duh !!!! Could I have bent a valve ?????? I was only using a short 3/8 drive ratchet and never really felt any resistance while rotating the crank back and forth looking for the timing mark. Could this be a case of bent valve T-belt paranoia???? I really don't think there is a problem but then again I also don't know what it takes to bend a valve either ???????????

u'd feel resistance for sure. if u want to find tdc faster, take out #1 spark plug and either look inside with a light to see the piston, or loosely put a wooden dowel (chopstick) inside

You did not bend a valve or cause any damage. I once turned a motorcycle engine over by hand -after rebuilding- and the valve touched the piston to the point where I could not turn the crank any further. Ooops... reset the cam and everything was just fine.

Long story short: you would feel resistance
