After going through a couple smog nightmares, and talking to four separate smog shop owners/workers. I highly recommended purchasing a new cat and 02 sensor, drive about 25miles and take it in, shop owner said he has seen cars missing on a cylinder, they put on a new cat on and passed, therefore the cat could cover up some other smog problems with the car. ( I had a 240sx that had a 2 year old cat and would not pass, had very high numbers, after replacing nearly everything and 6 re-tests later I simply put on a new cat and 02 sensor, and it put out excellent numbers.) Also, every shop I've ever been to highly recommends running a couple tanks of Cheveron with Techron gas, they say running that makes a huge difference in your results.
