Default 85.5+ Arm Rest Construction

Hey everyone,

I've been on a mission to fix everything in my interior lately, and finally got around to getting a new arm rest hinge. Sadly, one of the PO's lost the top of the cassette box, so I'm stuck fabbing my own since this is supposed to be a budget build. Is the entire thing made from high density foam, or is there some plastic/metal/wood backing under the foam and leather? How does the OEM attach to the frame, is it through the screw holes all around the perimeter of the top? TYIA, and I'll definitely post pics if this project gets off the ground for others to possibly follow.

No offense intended, but isn't your time worth money? Those specific eplacement parts are cheap and look proper. Just order them and spend your time on more meaningful labor-intensive bits on the car.

Should mention, I have the hinge already and just looking to make the top. I figure it's a good way to waste some time, maybe learn how to upholster. Dropping a C-note on a piece of foam wrapped in vinyl (if that's how it's made) doesn't exactly seem like a good value to a college student like me, I'd rather put it into things like a new turbo or MAF system.

In any case, I would think you could find a good replacement with a bad hinge for less that it would cost for that much vinyl and spray glue! Since you already have the hinge, and are willing to do some work, your options are many.

PM replied, broken hinge and a hole in the covering, sounds like this might be just what you needed!

It has just been sitting on my desk for a couple of years, taking up space until I could get back to it... well, now I don't have to worry about getting back to it!

I was thinking of re covering mine too and having a local leather shop do it, I was also thinking about making mine a bit higher, maybe 1-2" (have not tried a mock up yet) as my elbow does not reach from the seat position I like and would be more comfortable, any one do this?
